I work at a Renaissance faire, and we were doing an improv game before a rehearsal where we all have to tell anecdotes about an event, providing a segue that forces the next player to adapt to the chosen plot. The event winds up having escaped monkeys in it. An Italian actor in the cast chose to segue by turning to the black woman next to him and saying “And one of the monkeys looked like your boyfriend!”

So my opinion is that they’re from Italy, and don’t realize how offensive this is.

A) Racist people making “fun” of Barack Obama

The owner of the company is a Mitt Romney contributor.

Occam’s razor.

Can’t it be both?

I’d like a plushie Obama to hug whenever I watch the news, but yeah, that’s horrible and racist, not to mention uncreative.

…hrm… what animal would be appropriate? plushie people creep me out ever since I saw that 60’s Raggedy Ann/Andy movie on PBS.

I’d just like to point out that when Americans refer to the Chimp-in-Chief, we’re referring to Bush. Lest you think we’re all that racist.

Holy. Shit.

I was about to ask if the proceeds go to the KKK, but I don’t think they can read. Racist internet businesses must be run by someone else.

But seriously though, Jesus Christ!

If they hadn’t gone out of their way to make him a monkey, it might have actually been cute. Since they have made a “sock monkey” however, it’s disgusting. Making a link between an African-American and an ape is derogatory as hell, and I can’t imagine how anybody in this day and age could be unaware of that.

So I’m gonna go ahead and guess “A”.

Maybe it was Randal Graves’ idea, and he’s taking it back.

PD: Sorry. Is just a joke. I don’t live in the USA so I’m not accustomed to this kind of racism.

Of course it’s racist, just like the “Curious George” Obama ’08 shirts were and the Fox News “Obama’s Baby Mama” story on his wife, and the “He’s a nigger” speech from John McCain was.

The Republicans *have no supporters left who are not racist*. They’re divided along economic lines – the rich white males who want the law to only apply to other people hate the poor white males who want everyone to be an illiterate Baptist like them, and vice-versa – but the one thing every last Republican there is left can agree on is that brown people are scary and unclean.

“the “He’s a nigger” speech from John McCain”

Umm… source? It’s just I think I’d have heard of that… And the fact that you posted this…

“The Republicans *have no supporters left who are not racist*.”

Leads me to doubt your honesty.

And here I thought the Hillary nutcracker was scraping the bottom of the barrel.

But, yeah it’s definitely A. The product description is far too easy to read sarcastically.

Oh, and a google search gives nothing, of course. Just some Michael Richards references.

John, are you sure it wasn’t John MCLANE/ Jack Bauer slash fanfic “Top Gun: Laos Time Travel”?

I know McCain’s ads have the same deal and all the racist/ xenophobic/ extremist dog-whistles, but that specifically I don’t remember.

“Oh yee of old dog tricks
You give not a bone to McCain
Thou spake of war giving him a cane
Iran a viagra of the batguano insane”.

I’m sorry, I have to disagree.  Some Republicans are completely non-racist varieties of asshole and fool.

They’re from UTAH which means that they are almost 80% likely to be racist, right wingnut, small-minded, conservative assholes.

Undoubtedly racist.

In addition to most of the good reasons listed, if it was *any* sort of real boosterism, proceeds would probably go towards his election. At the very LEAST there would be donation links and a link to his website.

People should find out their webhost and protest. While I do wholeheartedly support people’s right to freedom of speech and ability to make idiots of themselves, I also totally support using your dollar to blacklist ideas you don’t. (boycott advertisers and companies that use the same webhost to put pressure on them to not carry that site anymore, etc).
