Amy Adams is hotter than Penelope Cruz. Ugh, I am just so sick of Penelope Cruz.

Penelope Cruz was the only good thing about that movie.

“Because she didn’t win for Junebug in 2005 despite having given the most deserving performance because she was a new face and because Rachel Weisz deserved a statue on a career basis.”

Having seen both performances, Rachel Weisz’s was the better of the two and the most deserving. Rachel drives her film and while Amy Adams was great in Junbug, she paled compared to what Rachel did in ” The Constant Gardener”.

Hopefully, Amy will win for her film “Doubt”.

Excellent. I now know exactly who will and won’t win because of this, saving me from watching the show.

I saw a piece on the local news complaining about all the movies people have never heard of being nominated for oscars. And having realized that I have no basis for commenting on this list, it finally struck home…

Americans complain when you recommend really good movies they haven’t seen yet.

Everything about my culture makes sense now.

The fact that Marisa Tomei’s performance stands up alongside Mickey Rourke’s phenomenal work, instead of being steamrolled by it, should be commended. A lesser actress would have painted a by-the numbers “Stripper With a Heart of Gold” bas relief and let the bulk of the praise (understandably) go to Mickey. Tomei didnt, and her accomplishments in this film need to be recognized – if for nothing else than to wipe that “she didnt really win for MY COUSIN VINNY” bullshit rumor off the map.

Now having said that, it wouldnt hurt my feelings if Amy Adams won either.

I was expecting Winslet to get nominated here for “The Reader” and finally collect that statue, but she ended up nominated in the lead category.

It’s sort of fascinating to me how little I care about any of this. Still: Are you going to do this for every (big) category?

“WHY TARAJI P. HENSON WILL NOT WIN BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS FOR THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON: Because potential surprise win or not, the Academy is leery of “TV actresses,” and her most notable credit other than Button is her season on Boston Legal. Because she is one of two black actresses nominated in this category and they will either split the “socially conscious” vote or she will be ignored in favour of Viola Davis’ superior work in Doubt. Because Benjamin Button kind of sucks.”

Amazingly everyone forgets her role in Hustle and Flow. She was amazing. Granted she didn’t have the biggest role, but she was a force in all of her scenes. If you haven’t watched the movie, do so.

boy, the oscars sure are complicated. Although pleased with the overall nominations, I’m becoming more and more disenheartened (sp?) with awards ceremonies in general.

Still, it beats the shit out of the grammies. *shudder*

I’m curious on your take in the other categories, you seem to know more about this then I do, even if its all just theory.
