Technically Superman’s birthday — if you’re going by the publication of his first comic book appearance — is April 18th. The cover was dated June 1938, but that was (and is) just industry practice. The date on the cover isn’t the publication date, it’s just meant to tell newsstands (and, later, comic book shops) when to pull that particular issue from their shelves.
Of course, I completely forgot about April 18th myself, and even DC Comics seems to be celebrating June as the 75th anniversary, so I suppose I’ve got no reason to be That Fan.
The green-screen flying effects were noticeable, but I loved how they made it work in natural settings (like when Supes flies off while the pimp gives props).
The movie has a lot of flaws, but this moment right here… there’s nothing I find more satisfying, more ingratiating in all of pop culture, art, or entertainment, than when someone gets Superman right. And I’ll say, Man of Steel just isn’t going to be the same without that John Williams score.

John Williams is nearly always at least good, but there was a very short period when he was practically infallible.

Of course not, Unstoppable Gravy Express. Most things can’t be carried the way Superman does.
Nor can people fly.
Or move super fast.
Or shoot lasers from their eyes.

Yeah but Superman can do all those these because he is Superman and the whole premise of Superman is “imagine if somebody COULD do all that”. But the helicopter is just some silly helicopter, not SuperCopter. I mean, not that it’s a huge deal but it’s funny how our brains can accept so much but then get hung up on something like that…

Somebody’s behind on their bullshit explanations for Superman’s powers. He generates a telekinetic field that holds together the object he’s lifting, allowing him to carry things that should collapse around his hands or by parts that should tear off the main body with ease.

Uh, excuse me, but Superman doesn’t generate a telekinetic field. He generates a BIO-ELECTRIC AURA, which is produced naturally by his body. This is why he can be blasted, shot, or slashed at and his uniform doesn’t rip. That, or his fabric is composed of advanced Kryptonian materials far stronger than Earth-parallels. Further research is required.
Superman has, however, shown capabilities similar to what you described, namely holding an object together and carrying things that would normally collapse. The most prominent example of this can be found near the beginning of All-Star Superman, where Superman envelops a spaceship en route on a mission to the sun in his aura. However, it is hinted at that Superman can’t do this naturally, and is only able to due to the extremely high doses of solar radiation he received during the rescue.
Again, further research is required.
