Oh, hell yes. This movie got pretty well panned when it came out, but my affection for it has never faded. Hell, I think I’ll pop that in tonight…

It’s got decent effects and an intriguing internal mythology all its own — it’s a little off-putting in ways I can’t describe and yet still can sympathize with, but yeah, I was beginning to accept that I was the only person who liked this flick. (And funny, that’s exactly how I saw this actress — “we can’t afford Andie McDowell, and you know, maybe that’s a good thing.”)

Highly underrated little film, agreed.

Critics, as a rule, hate movies that don’t fit into neat little genre boxes easily. The Frighteners is a horror action-dramedy, and as such doesn’t compare easily to pre-existing movies, which is how ninety percent of critics write their reviews.

I’ve always meant to watch this movie, based on continuing recommendations.. just never made time for it.

Are you going to get around to Hudson Hawk sometime on this list? ;)

I regret that Peter Jackson has become so successful.  His movies used to be so much fun.  Well, except for Meet the Feebles, but everyone screws up at some point.

Fox looks like Viggo Mortensen in the pic, didn’t realise it was him until I started reading the piece.

This is one of those rare flicks that I can watch and never be bored by, and for that reason alone it’s to be treasured. I’d completely forgotten that Chi McBride played one of Frank’s ghosts sidekicks, but it does explain why I liked that character so. I’ll second what MGK says about John Astin - ’cause there’s a scene in there involving him that I get the feeling Jackson might have thought was hi-larious but always makes me hit the fast forward button on. Not for long, mind, but I still hit it.

Man, I never thought this was obscure. It was on almost every Halloween when I was growing up. Most usually on CHRO, which became The New RO, which is now A channel, it also aired on Space some years. I loved this movie

My mother, of all people, is a huge fan of this film. I like it quite a bit too, though it’s been a few years since I last saw it in its entirety.

I saw this in the theaters and LOVED it. I used to have it on VHS but have not yet bought it on DVD. Your mention of a director’s cut makes me drool.

This movie wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad. My main problem was that it dragged for too long and relationship between the killer and the psycho girl never really made sense as it was being shown.
