I certainly agree with you on pricing (I was surprised by how reasonable it was when I first heard). The fact that you’re paying to read the comics rather than buying anything permanent feels pretty iffy to me. If I can make another itunes comparison, it reminds me of early competitors that would offer music for sale/download but then wouldn’t allow the user to put that music on a portable music player or would charge extra. But at the same time, I wind up reading a lot of comics that I don’t really reread and I buy trades of the stuff I really like, rather than the pamphlets. So I guess I would be willing to give this a try once the library of available material has grown a little.

But I just hope they’ve learned a lot since their last attempt at putting comics online with regards to their flash interface. Because my god, that thing Marvel had before was a nightmare to use.

I imagine they’ll gradually advance and loosen up a bit as time goes by, though hopefully a bit faster than iTunes managed. I understand that part of iTunes’s setup had to do with very demanding and reactionary record labels though, so at least Marvel owns the IP they are trying to sell. This could be really cool–I’m debating on the merits of subscribing. On the one hand, it’s a neat idea, but on the other, they still just don’t publish a lot I want to read these days.

Now, if Vertigo were to do such a thing …
