That’s the new art they are going on, it is ugly. The old art was just fine.

Someone must’ve misread the memo that the show was going to be titled Wonder Whores’face. (Which, sadly is almost as likely an outcome from the comic industry and would’ve been almost as fugly.)

Aardy: Did Frank Miller do a spec script? I know I’ve been eagerly awaiting his turn on a WW project. *cringe*

Me, I can’t look at this without hearing “Willllbur” somewhere off in the distance.

Actually, she looks more like the statues at Easter Island to me. I mean, take this http://www.flickr.com/photos/obiakpere/41514900/ and slap on a wig, tiara, and lipstick, and there ya go.

Actually, they’re trying to make her look like a picture from an ancient Greek vase, which makes sense because she is an Amazon after all. Here’s a picture of one for comparison. Notice the profile of the lady on the left.

I agree with reynardine. It looks like they were trying for Grecian elegance, but …no.

Look, I can appreciate the whole “lets reference Greek pottery motif”, but without grapes, lyres, and hoards of beautiful naked boys, it will never achieve the same effect.

Yeah, I see where they were going with it, but they missed by a mile. Perhaps because they have a somewhat Grecian face on a fairly standard superhero body. If someone did a piece of artwork in the style of a Greek urn with WW and other amazons it could be quite cool, this however isn’t.

They’re just doing that because Sarah Jessica Parker has signed on for the movie version.

I love it. I adore the nose and build on her too.

What a magnificent nose.

I like it. I don’t see the horse.

They go for the realism of the Greek nose, but leave the eyes blue?

You just got it wrong. That’s actually the Pilot for the new Comet The Super-Horse animated show.

On a more serious note, I really like her pose.

Personally, I don’t see what the fuss is all about. Yeah, she’s not what I would call gorgeous but I see the influence from Greek art, and it gives her strong features with a sense of dignity and nobility. I’m not a WW fan, so I don’t really know, but isn’t that fitting for the character? And as long as she’s awesome and kick ass in the movie who cares if she’s not gorgeous? It’s not like only pretty people can be heroes. But then again, if you look at the majority of female superheroes it does seem like being attractive is a requirement.

That’s by Lauren Montgomery, who’s a hell of a good artist. I’m sure she’s trying to stay on model as well as work in her own style. They’ve been giving Wondy that Roman/Greek look for several years now (most notably Doug Mahnke, who did the best version I’ve ever seen), so this is hardly somebody slagging off here.

It doesn’t look so bad to me. . .I wouldn’t say it’s how I’d have had it if I was the guy in charge but it is a unique look for her that doesn’t make her seem a Linda Carter clone or just another pass over the JLU model sheet. I say wait and see until it’s in motion and fully animated. A one-sheet and some sketches only reveal so much.

I think it’s awesome, face and body both.

Forget the creepy face - I’d never buy anything with the wonder arse so prominently displayed. I’d be happier buying honest to goodness porn than run the risk of a shop counter person thinking I was going home to wank over a cartoon wonder woman.

“Nobody wants to buy Wonder Horseface.”

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the Internet, it’s that if you can imagine it, someone will want it.

Cookie McCool said on July 16th, 2008 at 10:15 am

I would buy the hell out of Wonder Horseface. Maybe she’d actually be interesting for a change. At the very least, in every issue after something bad happens someone could ask her “Why the long face?”, and that would never ever ever get tired for me.

chenry said on July 16th, 2008 at 10:59 am

Maybe they’re trying to give her a really Greek face. But c’mon, they have a great template already with the Bruce Timm WW, why change the design?

Because DCUA is balls. They even managed to mess up Gotham Knight. I was so looking forward to that and they arsed it up.

Well on the plus side at least your eyes were “up here”…

Personally I’m glad to see her look like ANYthing other than a cookie cutter animated female. George Perez was the first to “Greek” up her face a little and I like it.
