The exploding pants myth is about some farmers around 1900 or so who were using pesticides that have been long since outlawed and had their pants literally burst into a giant fireball. This one is confirmed, by the way. The pesticide they used to test the myth, which was very common at the time, was more explosive than just about every other thing they tried.
Then, in true Mthybusters fashion, they coated some pants in nitroglycerin or C4 or something and blew Buster to fucking hell just for shits and giggles. What does that have to do with the myth again?

Why yes, I do remember The Critic fondly.
The Critic was AWESOME. The “kid from Easter Island” jokes never get old. Never.
I also highly enjoyed The Critic.
Seriously, dude, if you’re gonna diss a show nerds love as much as The Critic, you might want to make that the week you don’t link to your column.

The critic was way before it’s time… it was the progenitor of the Family Guy style “fast food” gag, but (unlike FG) managed to balance it out with some fairly high-brow source material. “The Red Balloon 2: Revenge of the Red Balloon” was inspired as was possibly the greatest Orson Welles cameos of all time:

I prefer the myths that delve more into the scientific process as opposed to random explosions and mayhem, and the build team did a pretty good job with the exploding pants. It’s one of the better episodes if just for the surprise when they stumble across a potent formula. Definitely unscripted, a lot more natural feeling than recent episodes.
1) This nerd followed the link and despised the Critic. I also can’t recall any of my nerd friends enjoying it. Heck, it was something that even a nerd could disparage, which demonstrate how low it was.
B) Again I know more than I need to know about Canadian TV (and let’s face it, I live in Phoenix, AX, in the USofA so more than I need to know is that there is TV in Canada) simply because the columnist is the best TV columnist I’ve ever read.
