I should probably look this series up. Garth “I hate capes” Ennis doing a DC book? If it’s anything like his Punisher run I will be highly entertained (I’d imagaine more Marvel Knights then Punisher MAX though). Ennis is hardly in full-on The Boys/The Pro "I hate capes" mode in Hitman. There's some none-too-gentle poking at conventions of the genre and of specific books (my favorite is a sequence showing just how easy it is to get someone released from Arkham Asylum) but as Disco Stu mentions in his response, there's also room for issue #34, one of the best (and most oddly reverential, especially coming from Ennis) Superman stories I've ever read.

From what I gather, it’s pretty close in tone to the Marvel Knights era Punisher. It's so close in tone, in fact, that when McCrea did the art for the "Confederacy of Dunces" arc in Punisher, he swiped one issue's fight choreography from issue #1 of Hitman. I've always wondered what the deal was with that. They're seriously a one-for-one match in places.

I’m so eager to read this series I’m considering just tracking down the issues. I never do that. Everything I’ve read of this is fantastic. The Superman story is one of the best I’ve ever read.

Andre, the recent DC solicitations (for…January, I think?) lists the second Starman Omnibus, actually. I know, I was getting worried whether they’d screw us over like they did with the trades.

Also, apparently, DC was going to collect the rest of the series…on the grounds that JLA/Hitman did well. It didn’t.

Now, what we should REALLY be complaining about is the lack of an Hourman series of trades. That series was just pure awesome.

Let’s see…Starman started out in…let’s say 1994, and we are getting an Omnibus this year, in 2008.

So you will see a Hitman Omnibus in…2010? Eh, that’s not as terrible as I thought it would be. I’m waiting for Volume 2 of the Starman Omnibus, frankly.

I’m very happy that I own the entire Hitman series. In fact, I just re-read them all a couple weeks ago, and they are *awesome*. This is a series that really holds up.

DC seems to have issues (har) with publishing things in nice formats unless they are perceived as highbrow enough. So we’ll get a Starman Omnibus but not a Hitman Omnibus and an Absolute Sandman but not an Absolute Preacher or 100 Bullets.

My theory however does not explain Absolute Superman For Tomorrow, however.

Well, to be fair, they are re-releasing the first five trades starting next June. So presumably the complete run will be in collected format sometime around 2014 or so?
