It took away all your marines because it doesn't save info. Interestingly enough, if you play Rescue Newt by itself, it's just like the movie, with Ripley, and it's even harder. One drone can take you out.

It's not entirely a puzzle. There is randomness involved, but I will say there is a good strategy to develop, like those folks have said above, at many points along the way, Such as with appropriate use of grenades on the Ops level.

Argh. This isn't really a strategy game, it's a puzzle game. See, strategy implies there's more than one way to win. With this, you pretty much have to try and fail over and over until you discover exactly who needs to live on each stage. Or go find out who on the internet. Or remember from the board game.

But I'm also just pissed because it took away all my marines on Rescue Newt after I died the first time.

I noticed Burke was on my squad in the second stage and thought "What's he gona do, throw money?" So it came as quite the delight when he effectively took himself off my squad. Him, I can count out.

OMG I loved the shit out of this game in high school. But, it is hard. So very hard, even in the boardgame variant. Nothing like playing it with a big bunch of friends, ending up to be Burke carrying nothing but a pistol.

Such a great excuse for cowardice.

You may want to link to a version that doesn't strip out the credits for the port (not to mention it's now at version 1.2.)

Man. I'd never played this, but I did play some Space Hulk, and unsurprisingly due to "Aliens"'... inspiration, getting pwned by the Genestealers felt just like this.

First scenario, only Apone got out. Second scenario, I managed to get the door 35 per cent cut, and killed 38 aliens.

I usually get 6-8 Marines out of the reactor and then 4-6 out through the escape tunnels (plus Ripley and Newt). There's a science to it.

In the Reactor level, the trick is shepherding Hudson, Crowe and Frost (who only have shitty pistols in that scenario, but who upgrade to pulse rifles and flame units in the second one) to the exit, using Apone and Hicks (who are the two best shots and who get three actions apiece) to cover the other Marines with decent weapons. Dietrich and Weirzbowski are the most expendable characters because after this scenario they only get pistols.

In the standoff level, the trick is taking your most useless Marine (usually Dietrich or Weirzbowski, assuming they survive the reactor - otherwise it's Hudson or Crowe) and positioning them at the rear alongside Ripley and Newt so the moment they can run and cut, they do so. Having Apone and Hicks survive is extremely important because they can kill 1-2 aliens per turn guaranteed.

Maybe I should have tried the training mission first.
