I don’t think highly of Jacob Zuma at all, but as African political leaders go, he’s hardly the bottom of the well.

A world-class economy, thousands of candidates, clear relevance to the West (will they back the nationalist party in face of economic uncertainty or go with the technocratic dynasty?), and just plain fascinating people, from Mayawati to the nutters of Shiv Sena. God, I wish I knew more about it, because -- and this is precisely the problem -- I've used up all my knowledge about the election in the above two paragraphs. 400 million people voted over the last month in India.
