Ah yes, the first GI Joe rip off. I remember the figures weren’t too bad but the vehicles were uninspiring. Now if they’d made Nazis and Panzers that would have sold.

They always leave something out so you’ll buy it later…as soon as they release the “dehumanizing horrors of war toys,” they’ll be teasing the “uncaring bureaucrats that rob you of what little humanity you had left after the battlefield took your soul” playset. Bastards.

I don’t know. I’d rather have a generation of children playing war, than a generation of men fighting one.

@The Stark: You make it sound like it’s one or the other.

So realistic, you’ll drink yourself to sleep every night for ten years and STILL wake up screaming!

When I was a little kid, I used to think that war was cool because–intentionally or not–it had been made to seem glamourous. I eventually wised up, thankfully, but not everybody did. I’m betting that a lot of the people who didn’t probably either joined the armed forces eager to prove themselves as big damn heroes and kill people on the other side of the world, or turned into right-wing hawks.

Wait, that toy ATC has a WORKING Gatling gun? Man, what a great time to be a kid.

The Navarone Battle Set (I’m not sure that was it’s actual name, but that was the idea… German mountain battle fortress with lotsa mounted guns, tons of German and Allied army men and tons of Allied vehicles) was perhaps the greatest “army man” set a kid could ask for. I wasted hours of my childhood on it.

@ Snap – That was indeed an awesome set. One of my friends had it, I loved when he busted it out. I didn’t even care that he was always the army in the fort….
