Pirate raids are brutal and typically quick; quarter is rarely given and almost never received by pirates. An exception to this occurred during the reign of Kyar The Generous, nineteenth Frejking of the Northern Fjords (NB 581-615), who allowed pirates to swear oaths of loyalty and be adopted into Fjord armies as shock marines (average life expectancy: three battles).
