A Handy Introduction (Read This First!)

Posted by MGK  Published in Mightygodking dot com

Hi. If you’re reading this, then you’re probably relatively new to mightygodking.com, home of Christopher “MGK” Bird (and very occasionally other people as well). If you really desperately want to know more about who this amazing person currently typing up a third-person summary of himself is, then go here. Otherwise, continue reading.

This blog has seen some posts that were hugely popular since its inception in August 2007 (when the maintainer was kicked off his Livejournal for, ahem, “creative differences,” and laid out the cash for a proper website of his own, with email and everything). Some of the most popular things Chris wrote on his Livejournal can be found in the “MGKlassics” tab on the sidebar. Other popular things dating back to the Livejournal era include:

- American Seeds. (Later sequelized: American Cards.)

- “I Date Conservatively”

- A Disney advertisement – of sorts.

- My most lasting contribution to Youtube.

More recent fare that has generally been popular includes:

- Take That, Mr. “Nice Guy.”

- LOLBats

- The Whiskey Mystery.

- The parody of Death of the New Gods #1.

- An inexplicably popular The Question fake movie poster.

- Dialogue, and how I write it.

- Meet Your American Gladiators.

- Join the Junior Navy!

- The great bad webcomics controversy, in two parts.

- It’s the science of the seventies.

- How to fix Mephisto “fixing” Spider-Man.

- The “review” of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier.

- The complete Thursday Who’s Who.

- A post criticizing PvP, which fans of said strip did not like at all. (Nor did they appreciate this.)

- The parody of the first issue of the “Brand New Day” Spider-Man.

- 2007: what was good and what was not.

- A theory.

- Rex the Wonder Dog is the greatest comics character ever.

- Remember the Mr. Men books?

- Honesty in comic book covers.

- Wherein I discover rampant plagiarism at Vertigo.

- Tintin In America: an appreciation.

- Five genuinely good Keanu Reeves performances.

- We talked a lot during 10,000 BC.

- Firestorm villains: a retrospective.

- What if Frank Miller wrote Donald Duck Adventures?

- Dr. Doom’s dialogue improvements.

- The single best panel in comics history.

- DC Comics, explained in one page.

- Best thing ever (well, that week).

- Musings on hate speech law.

- The legacy of time-travel Hitler.

- Photoshopping Final Fantasy covers.

- A discussion of how comparisons between the Iowa floods and Hurricane Katrina are bullshit.

- My bid for the most 90s comic cover ever.

- Reacting to the Watchmen trailer.

- NEW MEME.

- Everything I ever really needed to know I learned from Asterix comics.

- Confusion about a trailer for The Mummy Olympics.

- The parody of Hawkman Special #1.

- More than a few people thought this was real. (It is not real!)

- An essay about Lex Luthor.

- The 2008 American presidential election in Magic card form. (Also, part two.)

- Forty reasons I will love comics forever. (In pictures.)

- Liveblogging of the 2008 presidential and veep debates: The first one, the second one,, the veep debate and the last one. Also, for those interested in such things, a less comedic liveblog of the 2008 Canadian federal election leader’s debate.

- A holiday gift guide for the rest of us.

- The Best of Improved Archie, Part One.

- Subtle political commentary.

- Scenes from an alternate universe where Saved By The Bell, rather than Law and Order, became the dominant television franchise for a generation.

- Photoshopped Star Trek novel covers.

- scans_daily versus Peter David.

- The least feminist comics heroine ever.

- If Batman did rap battles.

This page will be updated as I see fit.

Like, something with lasers. Or dinosaurs. Or, you know, something I have not heard literally dozens of times before.

I have to admit I was expecting something more dramatic than a newspaper expose of how Doug Ford used to deal drugs when he was a kid.
@wilnervision it did, but I think BOB'S surpasses it just because ARCHER is dark, BOB'S isn't, and the latter is harder to pull off.
@kenlowery rewatching Gene with the "baby" bags and he keeps destroying them and screaming in horror and oh god my sides
  • 3 hours ago
like, BOB'S BURGERS went from "not half bad animated sitcom" to "classic SIMPSONS-level quality" almost instantly this past season
