There’s also people online who are noting the document looks like an Australian birth certificate done up to look like a Kenyan document. That can be easily rectified by contacting the appropriate persons in Kenya and looking at how their documents were set up in 1961 (or 1964… and why would we trust a document supposedly typed up 3 years after Obama’s birth anyway?) and see if they match.

Another thing, there are names of persons of authority – the registrars – attached to this form. I’d call any of the libraries in Kenya or any library in the U.S. with a strong African Studies dept. with Kenya historical materials and see if there’s a government directory archived back to 1961-64 that would list officials and see if registrars were covered. I’d also contact the registrar’s office in Kenya and see if those persons are still around (unlikely) or if people can verify who were registrars during those years (more likely).

As I was reading through this, I thought it was a well-researched takedown of birther hysteria.

I challenge the birthers to come up with the original document, because that is where you set the bar.

No kidding. Also, not just the original document, but the original “long form” document. I mean, how can anyone begin to assume this is the real thing without having at least three state officials and five independent eye witnesses to confirm it.

For all we know, this is merely a ploy by the Tutsis of Rwanda to prevent Obama from being elected Prime Minister of Kenya.

chris: The document may be dated February 17, 1964–three months after Kenya gained its independence–but Kenya didn’t become a _Republic_ until December 12, 1964.

So, even post-dated as it is, it STILL shouldn’t say “Republic of Kenya”! (Rather, for Feb. 1964, it should say “Dominion of Kenya”)

Guys, you’re not grasping the ramifications of this! Not only was President Obama born in a foreign country, he was born IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE in which Kenya achieved independence several years earlier!

You know, the hilarious part is something you missed entirely.

The fact that the third and fourth images both quite efficiently prove that, even if it was a valid document, he’d still legally qualify as a natural-born American citizen. After all, they list his mother as being born in Wichita, Kansas, and unless she had renounced her American citizenship (which I’ve yet to hear ANYone claim she did), that automatically makes him the child of an American citizen and thus a natural-born American citizen.

So basically, two weeks from now, when I see the theories that he’s a Martian?

I blame you.

For the record, both of Andrew Jackson’s parents were immigrants, so the precedent has been set that neither parent needs to be a U.S. citizen.

The precedent for foreign father is actually Chester A. Arthur: his father was still Irish at the time of his birth and didn’t get US citizenship until ten years later. There was even someone complaining Arthur was secretly born in Ireland! Arthur had his own problem with citizenship issues, with critics claiming he was born in Canada (his family’s Vermont farm was right on the border).
