Ummmmm.

Why is the cast of Get Smart all over the place?

What upsets me is not that they cut off the acceptance speeches of the “regular” folks and let the big award winners at the end of the night go on and on. What pisses me off is that they cut off the acceptance speeches of the regular folks, and then give us TWO HOURS of freaking MONTAGES. We couldn’t cut out a montage or two and let these people have a few more seconds for their one moment on national TV? Really? (And I say this as someone who dreams of someday hearing my name called in that director category.)

At least that crack-headed idea of having them accept from out in the audience, as though we couldn’t even be bothered to wait while they WALKED to the stage, got thrown overboard after only one embarrassing year.

Makes me wish I got IFC so I could see the Independent Spirit Awards where they let people do whatever the fuck they want for the speeches…

Scorsese! He makes the best fucking films!

I was pleasantly surprised at how classy the Oscars stayed. Well done. Especially Stewart bringing out the woman from Once to give her speech. It was a very human thing to do.

An award show featuring nominees that I have never seen! Not even once! How thrilling! All kidding aside, that blog entry was probably more entertaining than the show itself.

Huzzah for Diablo Cody.

What was Jon Stewart’s 11:13 bit? I forgot.

You know, I thought the JUNO screenplay had some problems, but I couldn’t not like Diablo Cody when she was up there. Cool girl- I look forward to the next thing she writes.

When Amy Adams finished her song, I briefly forgot where I was and applauded. I regret missing ENCHANTED in theaters, and need to catch it soon.

I suspect Diablo Cody is the the hottest person to win a best screenplay award (and if I’m being honest she’s more my type than most actresses so…).

But yeah, that was first time I actually watched the majority of the ceremony, instead of switching it off in boredom/irritation.

You did it with Harry Potter and the Seven Figure Advance, and you’ve done it again with the Oscars: blogging the snark to save me wading through the crap. Go you!

*That* was a good Oscars? Jesus Christ. I haven’t watched the Oscars in *years*, but I don’t remember it being so damn boring. They even made the music boring. I was so embarrassed by John Stewart’s lack of funny that I had tears in my eyes. Why do they spend so much time pointing out the celebrities in the audience? We get it! Stars show up for the Oscars! GRATS.

I have to disagree with you about Surf’s Up. The story and characters were all cliche, and there were very few laughs in it. Shia LeBouf and Jeff Bridges acted their parts well, which made it watchable, but nearly everything else about the movie was a disappointment.

Applause for Jack Valenti? That really surprises me, I thought everybody hated him. I remember when he croaked, I thought “I hope he gets booed during the Oscar obit montage”.

Heyyy… the special effects in Surf’s Up were good. And a lot of stuff in it was cliche, but less obnoxious than other stuff that I’ve seen marketed to kids. Which isn’t to say it wasn’t obnoxious, but far less so than it could have been. At least, I was pleasantly surprised when I had to watch the DVD with my little sister after judging it based on commercials.

Also: you warned people about Harry Potter? I missed that one, and infinitely regret it, because I read all the damned books.

“I love Tilda Swinton and everything she has ever been in (yes, even Constantine)”

Tilda Swinton (and Peter Stormare) fucking made that movie. They’re the only reason it’s watchable, because they are amazing.
