I’m confused. Does “dropping” mean that he’ll be withdrawing his request for an election, or putting in the request?

My bad, Andrew: I dabbled in the technical term of “dropping a writ” without explaining it.

I really hope all those polls saying that the conservatives are ahead doesn’t translate into a majority. I don’t care if they stay in power so long as they aren’t given a majority.

Also, why are the conservatives the only ones already running campaign ads on TV?

I’m running for a Liberal nomination in Ontario, so I hope for a Liberal majority, of course. But you’re right, a Conservative majority would spell very bad news. If I get in, then MGK could have an ear in the house. Scary thought, eh?

Ah, I understand now. Thanks.

I hope that we won’t have a majority government regardless of which party wins. I find minorities preferable because politicians have to (GASP!) compromise.

Which is what has been going on for the past few years now and things have gone fairly well, Harper’s lies bedamned.

It feels strange to have our election start after the American one and end before it.

I’ll be out doing my part to keep PEI returning four Liberals (twenty years and counting!).

“Also, why are the conservatives the only ones already running campaign ads on TV?”

Those can’t be campaign ads — you’ll understand later, when the party doesn’t count them against its election spending limit.

Though it may seek some form of public subsidy or reimbursement for them…

How can they not be campaign ads when they’ve got this one girl saying, “this year I’ll vote for the first time, and I’ll be voting for Stephen Harper!”?

The new Conservative election tagline?

‘We’re better off with Harper’.

I wish I could make this up.

“How can they not be campaign ads … ?”

I was trying to make a joke about the Conservatives’ “in-and-out” scam, further examination of which this election call is probably partly meant to head off, and also about the fact that Harper’s Conservatives have run a series of election-style ad campaigns during their time in power. “Steff-an Dee-on Is Not A Leader,” etc.

Citizens of Ontario will remember the amazing amount of self promotion that the Mike Harris Conservatives did during his reign as premier, puffing up the party and ragging on any and all opponents to the Nonsense Revolution policy juggernaut.
