That lady is seriously awesome.
The speech is fantastic, and the artwork matches it. I love the facial expressions, especially Alric thinking about the situation while still obviously touched by the situation.

What exactly was the relationship between Apali and the Caliph? There was obviously some great closeness, but Apali seems much more upset about Fezay (her gutter-rat surrogate son) than about the Caliph. I’m curious, but I’m also quite impressed at how well it’s handled. The characters clearly have a history with each other (well, except Alric and Joro, of course) and you’re showing rather than telling, and if that means keeping some details hidden for a bit longer, so be it.
