If the relaunch of the LSH were called Bouncing Boy and the Legion of Super-Heroes, I would buy it. As would a lot of America. Because he’s just that awesome.

I love Cos’ expression in the last panel. “I don’t get paid enough to deal with this shit.”

I found this random issue in a bunch of Legion books I bought the other day.

“Well, I can do this…”
Love it!

I love the logical leap from “I can bounce off of things” to “I could fight crime!”

“This soda tastes awful

No wonder! it isn’t soda!

I’m drinking the super -plastic fluid by mistake!”

This has got to be the best and the worst of the thoughtballoon inner monologue. In one thought balloon even!

I would enhance the origin as thus…

Bouncing Boy did not gain his powers from drinking that first bottle of super-plastic formula, but rather his 5th. Every time the professor tried giving him a bottle of the stuff, he would in some bizarre manner wind up accidentally ingesting it, wind up with some massive indigestion later on and thus requiring the thought balloon to read:

“Ugh! This stuff tastes kind of familiar. Ulp! Nuts! I drank the formula again!”

Jaap, the best part is you know it doesn’t stop him. He started drinking that bottle, and by God he’s gonna finish it.

I just appreciate that crowds of onlookers are as completely useless and cynical in the 31st century as they are in the 21st.

Zifnab: What gets me is one onlookers reaction of “Will somebody just shoot him?”

HitTheTargets, yeah it brings to my mind Chief Wiggum who complains “How long were you going to let me drink this” before taking another two sips of his slurpee.

MGK, is this by JLGL?

mygif
DistantFred said on July 13th, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Wait a second… A BLACK person? In the 31st century? That isn’t right. Aren’t they all supposed to be sequestered on that Black Persons Island that Tyroc protects when it stops being invisible?

And is that Kono?

Mag-ni-fi-cent.

He goes from “OMFG I drank a chemical that mutated me!!!” to “I bet I could fight crime” in 13 seconds. If only all our secret origins come with such swift insight.

Black Rabbit, it’s written, drawn, and lettered (and who knows, maybe colored too) by Ty Templeton. But a Bouncing Boy story by JLGL would be pretty awesome.

I’m amused that the Elecro-Shock guy appears to be rabid.

“Grrrarf! Grrr!”

The late Quarter Bin once posited that a good test for a comics story was whether A) it would be tonally disrupted by the sudden entrance of Bouncing Boy and B) whether it would be improved by said disruption.

Your subject line gave me a West Wing flashback: “You get Hoynes!”

It’s probably his expression in the final panel, but I somehow get the feeling that Bouncing Boy gets a monumental amount of tail.

Probably the expression.

mygif
DistantFred said on July 13th, 2009 at 6:17 pm

Stig- Well… he IS a bigamist. (And his bigamy got him kicked out of the Legion, too! Although he later came back as the head of Legion Academy along with his two wives to make sure later recruits didn’t accidentally get shot by Scicops or anything like that)

mygif
RandomChance said on July 13th, 2009 at 6:35 pm

Stig,
Two words: Duo Damsel.

mygif
Brandi said on July 13th, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Wasn’t he a trigamist, or was she already Duo Damsel when they got married?

mygif
DistantFred said on July 13th, 2009 at 6:58 pm

No, She was Duo Damsel by that point. The third one was killed in Computo’s first appearance IIRC.

But he might have been a trigamist for a little bit, because I think ‘Una’ from Countdown was the dead one, because Legion of Three Worlds still has Duo Damsel.

While I appreciate how you could take Bouncing Boy as a joke, I certainly wouldn’t want to get wanged in the face with his central mass.

Ever read Bigg Time by Templeton….there’s a bit when he goes on a rant about how irrelevant comics are.

Good book.

And who doesn’t love Bouncing Boy!

Here are a couple of pages from the older story he’s redone. Interesting for comparison’s sake.

The scary thing is NO PLOT POINTS were altered. That pretty much is his origin as written.
