Pretty cool. I’d never heard of that, although I have heard of Victoria Falls (my family being from Southern Africa).

I’m sure you don’t have to be rich to visit it, though. My family is decidedly middle class, and I’ve been to South Africa a fair amount of times. Zimbabwe is just the next country over. I’ve you’ve got the money to go on a trip to Europe, Africa isn’t out of the question. The air fare is a bit more expensive, but hotel costs etc. once you’re there are fairly inexpensive due to the exchange rate. (A sad benefit to being a Westen tourist…)

I imagine the cost of getting to the falls and getting up to that specific point add a little bit more to it. But, regardless, there is now another line on the list of things I need to do before I die.

Your sister and I were very close to that pool in 1999. You can only get to the area (which is in the middle of the cataract) during the dry season when the waters are at their lowest. There is a small island commencing about 100 feet to the left of the pictures you published.

On the day we were there, there were some German tourists having a picnic catered by their hotel. Since getting to this area involvews a really long walk across the edge of the falls, we were very thirsty. We purchased two cokes for 10 dollars US from the hotel waiters. Definitely a pause that refreshed.
