I’m now finding out that they’ve been around for a while, but have you heard of Calexico?

Zune? Why didn’t you get a Creative player?

Also, i’m not sure if you are into this kind of music, but check out Gaslight Anthem (the video is kind of cheesy)

Man. Here in Seattle, Flobots have been getting so much play I’m sick of that song. It doesn’t help that my radio station seems utterly happy to let the band have all the time they want for their U2 style rants.

In other music, http://www.machinaesupremacy.com/ is fun. It’s alt metal with a lot of video game influences, and free music is always nice. someone beat me to mentioning OCRemix, but if I can aim people toward Chrono Symphonic and Metroid Metal there, I’ll consider that a good deed for today.

I present: Littlehorse – your new favorite band. (If, you know, you like funk/latin/rock about spies and adventure and danger done by two brothers playing two pianos at the same time backed up by a full brass ensemble. And if you don’t, YOU HAVE NO SOUL!)

I haven’t liked that handlebars song since day 1. I don’t know why my local radio session is obsessed with it. Obviously, I need a new car stereo so I can ignore the radio. It’s the only part that actually works on the one that came with my car.

The new Shinedown album is great, and I also enjoyed the new Disturbed and 3 Doors Down album. These recs probably only work if you’re really into rock. Oh, and I’m happy to let you know that the Foo Fighters most recent album is the first one of theirs I can actually listen to in its entirety. In the past, all of their albums have boiled down to two or three fantastic songs, and a bunch of boring and annoying ones.

I doubt there’s much of a metalhead presence lurking herebouts, but I’ve been really digging Hollenthon’s new album, Opus Magnum. Strong contender for Album of the Year, totally worth the seven-year wait since their last one. Video sucks balls (most metal videos do), but the song is good and it’s the only one they’ve got:

Forefather’s new one, Steadfast, is also a possible Album of the Year. The title track:

And new Amon Amarth is very unlikely to disappoint:

New Stormwarrior, classic German speed metal (a la Helloween) with a Viking-themed twist:

And last but not least, Cor Scorpii, successor to the legendary Windir:

Pure fucking ownage right there. \m/

I’ll second the Gaslight Anthem recommendation and add:

It’s not exactly new, but I’m sure the style of the video will be appreciated by the people who frequent here.

No, I was talking about my ten-link comment. 🙂

I’d also like to tip my hat to the people recommending Gaslight Anthem.  It’s not my usual style (very straightforward, musically), but it is just plain solid rock music.  After hearing my wife listen to them on a daily basis for a couple of months, I eventually found myself humming along and looking forward to the next repeat performance.

I….I don’t know what to say. Reminds me of a day I had at college. I was at are lower campus eatery walking the steps to the second floor when as my eyes flashed past I see a poster for Dale K. I hit the second step before my brain registered it and I had to stop, turn around and stare at the poster for two minutes before I stopped freaking out.

One more for ya, the song that is completely rocking my cock off at the moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC8ee0jGTNQ

Never thought I’d hear the like again. You have to understand this is a band I pretty much abandoned after the Black Album. But that right there is the best song they’ve done in twenty years. It’s honest to God genuine thrash, and boy did I miss it coming from those guys.

Check out the Dead Science who just released an album rich with references to comics entitled Villainaire. Imagine Chet Baker obsessing over Prince/Wu-Tang instead of Bird, performing in the practice space alongside Blonde Redhead doing some Sun Ra covers and you might start getting an inkling of their sound. You can download the “School of Villainy” mixtapes for free direct from the band’s website. Both baroque and progressive, the Dead Science balance out-jazz and rock influences with theatrical orchestration and R&B hooks.
