Barrie band For the Birds. Full disclosure, I went to high school with 3/4 of them, but I also went to high school with other bands and I certainly don’t post all their stuff when the oppurtunity arises.

Vitaly Zavadskyy. He’s a Toronto based composer who does fan-made music for movies and tv, which usually are better than the official.

I listen to this band pretty constantly recently. They are awesome. I am very much digging the Snowgoons linked above, nice stuff.

A lot of Nine Inch Nails and Husker Du. I’m sure many of you are familiar with NIN, but Husker Du is one of the most criminally underappreciated rock bands ever. They basically invented many of the defining sonic hallmarks of alternative rock, a sound which was later refined by the Dinosaur Jr., the Pixies, and Nirvana. Their influence is enormous, and if they had released their mid-80s albums a decade later, they would’ve been huge.

Although I’m a music reviewer, I’ve had to put a lot of new listening on hold because of a feature I’m working on. I do enjoy the new Hudson Mohawke very much, though.

Well, The Decembrists have a new album out, and I quite like this track off of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJpfK7l404I&ob=av2e) although I haven’t had a chance to hear the remainder of the album yet.

I also like Coeur de Pirate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaUI6Tvd1sA). It’s a good way to keep my French from degenerating from bad to abominable.

Singer from one of my favourite bands (Aussie) put out a solo album this year and I’ve been listening to it a lot even though it’s what she called “Sad Bastard Music” and I’m really not at that stage in my life 😛 it’s pretty much a perfect breakup album right when I don’t need one anymore. No music videos yet so here’s one of the less noisy live ones.

In something completely different, I have recently discovered Wax Mannequin, a freaky nick-cave-esque solo outfit from Canada, and despaired of buying the damn music without having to install itunes (whyyyyy).

Scooter’s cover of the Sisters of Mercy song Marian [Version].

For some reason, it’s stuck and gone on repeat a lot for me. As a friend of mine said when I exposed him to it: “it’s not happy Scooter, it’s emo Scooter”.
