One of my earliest memories of watching television is of Walter interviewing Harriet Tubman as part of the You Are There educational program…that, and a stop-action Captain America cartoon.
I can’t believe this man would go to Vietnam and actually come to a conclusion based on the facts he observed. It’s a shame he died before he could have taken some lessons in real objective journalism from David Gregory or Tim Russert.
Actually, better that Freep attack Cronkite… at least they’re honest about the fact they hate him and everything he stands for. Tributes from the FOX crowd are an insult; Cronkite despised them and held them in contempt, and they know it- pretending otherwise is just another lie…
Oh bullshit, the FOX guys admired Cronkite as much as everyone else; he hated them because he was as liberal as the network he reported for eventually became (he wasn’t always that way, of course, but definitely in his later years).
You have not contradicted me- they pay tribute in an attempt to make themselves look bigger, but they still know he held them in contempt- and it wasn’t just the politics. (In fact, forget politics- the real problem with FOX is, and always has been, simply this: LACK OF ACTUAL NEWS. When the closest thing you have to someone with actual journalistic credibility is Geraldo, you’ve got a problem.)( I know some people are pointing to Sheppard Smith- but he hasn’t broken from the pack yet- and smart money says he won’t until he reads the handwriting on the wall and makes a break for it… because it really only a question of whether he jumps or is pushed.)

The man who was trusted in more than just America.
Goodnight sweet medium.

As a Journalism student I can honestly say that journalism isn’t dead…
…it’s just pining for the fjords…
Actually, I’d say it’s pretty charitable to claim that journalism only died this year. I’d say it was gone years ago.
To clarify:Walter Cronkite died July 17. That is what is post is about.
Freep, classy as always, is already condemning him as the central figure is their Vietnam Dolchstosslegende.
