How obnoxious was that show? I was never such a fan of Arianna anyways, so that doesn’t really bother me.

I think putting Russell in the bottom was a bit duplicitous. They clearly wanted Brandon gone, because they had already cut him from the top 20 for whatever reason. So they nominate Russell, someone who’s obviously going to kill their solo. No matter what Brandon did, he was screwed. Even if Brandon managed to pull out an amazing solo, Russell’s would be different enough that they could still cut him.

It’s obnoxious, because the poor kid was basically used by the producers to fill a spot and then kicked off the first chance they got.

Had it gone to a vote he’d have been through no problem. Their waltz was solid, and there were people who screwed up way more than those two.

Winners of the show: Jakob for being insanely good in every single movement, Russell for being charming and selling his foxtrot with flair, and then throwing that solo in Nigel’s face, Melanie for being her fabulous self, Brandon for being a class act in the face of incredibly rude treatment by the show, Nathan/Legacy for showing he can actually do something other than that amazing freeze, Kathryn for showing us she can dance as well as cry.
I would have sent Phillip home and booted Noelle.
Losers: Nigel for being a heavy-handed douche, and the lighting crew for putting Cat in a red dress against a red/yellow/orange background. Less is more, folks.

I did appreciate the somewhat more substantive dance critiques by all the judges, especially Adam’s, which help viewers understand what they are seeing in dancers’ terms.

The Travis piece had some great moments–I particularly loved the roll Bianca did where she was following behind Viktor, grabbing at his ankle as he was walking away from her and constantly kicking her off. I also really love his transitions, the way contact/holds constantly flow into motion, which is where being an active dancer probably helps with the choreo, I think.

As for that not being Dave Scott’s best number, well–granted. But it was fun as hell, and that counts for a lot.

Russell’s placement in the bottom might be explained simply by the fact that he wasn’t paired with his normal partner, which meant he was was operating under an immediate assumed deficit. But yeah, he was never in danger–and yet he fucking killed it, too, so it wasn’t like he either knew that or was about to act like he knew it. Man, I like that dude.

I thought putting Russell in the bottom and essentially giving him an extra chance to show off how ridiculously awesome he is was pretty blatant. Seriously judges, people already like him. You really don’t need to give him every possible advantage.
