Lies, damned lies, and statistics, where “statistics” is defined as “a video of a guy smoking something”

Torontoist asked me to discuss how Canadian libel law would work if Rob Ford wanted to sue the press over the “crack-smoking story” so that is what I did there.

Now here is that GIF of Ford trying to throw a football again!

Is there anyway we can get it both ways? Can this man be revealed to have been smoking the crack and can the entire clickbaity horror that is the Gawker Network be destroyed under a tsunami of crushing legal bills?

Cause I’d like to see that happen.

I’ve gotta say, Cory Doctorow’s unrelenting attitude of referring to the Toronto Mayor as Laughable Bumblefuck never fails to amuse me.

Unlike Mr Ford’s actual ‘adventures’, which make me deeply sympathetic to the city.

Very, very thorough. I think you’re right. The Star took every step required to move ahead with the story.

Isn’t it odd, from his mutterings and those of his supporters that from all the threats of libel and lawsuits… that Tweedledum never, ever follows through on it….
