FLAPJACKS: Who’s she?
ME: Radical feminist legal scholar.
FLAPJACKS: How radical is “radical”?
ME: She supported Andrea Dworkin’s assertion that all heterosexual sex can be defined as rape.
FLAPJACKS: That is pretty radical.
ME: Yeah.
FLAPJACKS: Wait, was Andrea Dorkin -
ME: Dworkin.
FLAPJACKS: Oh. Was she married?
ME: I’m sure I don’t know.
FLAPJACKS: Sec. (pause) Okay, she was married.
ME: All right.
FLAPJACKS: Do you think she referred to her husband as a rapist?
ME: That would be on my long list of “things I don’t want to even speculate about.”
FLAPJACKS: Because that would make for some really awkward pillow talk.
ME: Please stop.
FLAPJACKS: I mean, he’d be all “I love you, baby,” and she’d be all “this is raping, you raper.”
ME: I am trying to read this, you know.
FLAPJACKS: Maybe they got off on it.
ME: See me flipping pages here?
FLAPJACKS: Man, academics have weird-ass sex lives.
ME: You know, when you came over, you said it was only because you wanted to borrow my wok.
FLAPJACKS: I’ve got it right here.
ME: And now?
FLAPJACKS: We’re bonding.
ME: I see.
FLAPJACKS: Why are you reading that thing, anyway?
ME: Writing a research paper on how a given Canadian court decision about how pornography should be treated under obscenity laws.
FLAPJACKS: And how should it be handled?
ME: Liberally, with minimum censorship.
FLAPJACKS: …there’s no real opportunity for me to make a dirty joke there.
ME: Imagine that.
FLAPJACKS: Say, while I’m here, can I borrow some peppers and onions and chicken?
ME: So what you’re saying is that in addition to borrowing my wok to make a stir-fry, you also want to borrow all the ingredients for a stir-fry.
FLAPJACKS: Well, I’ve already got oil.
ME: Good to see you’ve thought this out.
FLAPJACKS: Exactly. I said to myself, “what can I make with this bottle of canola oil?” And I said, “hey, a stir-fry!” Now all I need is the stir-fry stuff. And you’ve got that. So I come over here.
ME: Exquisitely planned, I must admit.
FLAPJACKS: While I’m here, can I use your stove?

I wish I had friends like Flapjacks
I’m sure I’m about to make a fool of myself here, but I seem to remember a link from WFA a few monthes back there someone was using the script of Firefly to prove that Joss Whedon abused his wife (to WFA’s credit the links were to blog posts critical of this argument, not the blog where the claims were made, I followed the links to the original blog).
I hope Flapjacks at least shared the stir-fry.
Anyway, in the comments section the blogger claimed that Dworkin’s husband was a fellow academic who self-identified as gay. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it stuck in my mind becasue it was specifically referenced as the only male/female relationship the blogger could think of as being positive.
Once you get Flapjacks in the kitchen, make sure he’s barefoot and pregnant.

While I disagree with Dworkin– being a straight woman who enjoys the heterosexual sex and all– to be fair, her argument is marginally more subtle than you suggest.
She’s still wrong, of course.
1) Does Flapjacks have a girlfriend?
2) If not, would he consider a crazy single Californian sight unseen?

MacKinnon ended up at the UMichigan Law School when I was at UM (different department). I recall reading some essay of hers on how science was inherently sexist (at least that’s my memory of it; may be mistaken after a few decades) and deciding she was an idiot. Checked with a friend, admittedly one somewhat on the conservative side, who was a law student and he replied that very few students had much intellectual respect for her.
Heh heh.
Seriously, though, what are your thoughts on MacKinnon? Beyond her association with Dworkin. It’s not ALL that extreme: for example, feminist scholarship has many useful insights about how we define legal merit in terms of stereotypically masculine qualities, which is important in terms of establishing a more egalitarian legal system.
According to snopes and wikipedia, you’re wrong what she says about about the rape thing.

We were assigned Only Words in J school by the original English teacher, who got replaced by another English teacher who did not quite understand it, so we ended up with a copy of a book we didn’t need.
Without anyone to provide context for it, it was a… strange read.

to answer the question raised by flapjacks, yes dworkin was married, her husband abused her then after they broke up she started the whole “sex is rape thing”. dworkin is also a huge bitch.
I did some research on Dworkin. She claimed that later on in life she was raped by several men in Paris. Please google image this woman and you will understand the humor in this.
