Suspected protesters? Suspected protesters. Suspected protesters!

… No, still doesn’t sound any less stupid. Clearly, people who are suspected to plan to show up with signs and chants are evil criminal terrorists.

Given the disproportionate response to protesters four years ago here in NYC, this should not surprise anyone. Now they’ve just moved up their timetable to anticipation instead of rounding them up after they’ve had a chance to say anything.

I think I’m going to be sick.

Bullshit. They just wanted to scare the suspected far left.

It’s about time they cracked down on fire code violations.

Yeah, considering the police ignored the crackhouse next store for all those months.

Not that I’m surprised; fascists have different priorities than other folk.

There were similar protestations about the way the Denver police would handle protestors at the DNC. I don’t know how it turned out, as I diligently avoided downtown all last week for that specific reason, but I did hear “Gitmo on the Platte” mentioned several times.

Though not for “suspected protestors.” That’s just crazy talk.

I totally disagree with the arresting of suspected protesters, that’s crazy and wrong on so many levels.

But I also love the word ‘Fascist’ being thrown around. If this is a Fascist state, it’s a pretty good one, because they weren’t murdered for sedition, and didn’t have their families tortured for no reason. It’s rainbow fascism ~~

I’ve helped spread the word. Thanks for the heads up.

I’m tempted to say that this is a classic case of prior-restraint, but the activity these people were planning to do isn’t even illegal.

Doesn’t surprise me. I remember watching Bush speak at the 2004 convention and on at least two occasions they dragged a protestor away, much to the delight of the delegates. I remember Bush just smirking through it.

This is a big reason why I do not vote Republican.

Mmm, Bush’s FBI & the Minneapolis PD, two great tastes that taste great together.

For those who don’t know, the MPD has a terrible reputation for smacking around criminals, suspected criminals, and just anyone who gets in their way. At any given time there are several lawsuits pending against the department for abuse, and their “Thin blue line” mentality is the stuff of legends.

Go in the local paper’s website and the reader comments will make you weep. “Damn smelly hippies had it coming!” being the most articulate phrasing of the mindset.

No, people are not being “disappeared” or their families tortured, but personally I have this wacky idea that we shouldn’t wait until that happens before we speak up and do something to prevent it.

Looking at your watch and saying “Umm, OK… No, not quite yet, no one’s getting murdered…Almost… We still have a few rights… Wait for it… Couple more gross violations of the constitation… Not quite yet…NOW! Now we’re a Fascist state! Now I’m going to do something about it!” Strikes me as an almost obscenely stupid way to look at this.

The whole thing reeks of early 1942 Gestapo activity.

First they came for the communists…

(IOW, I agree)
