I would actually pay to take a tour of those tunnels just to learn more about what it was like under Mao’s warp speed insanity, and maybe to steal the handmade Metroid map. Plus is that pug walking itself, or am I just seeing it wrong?

Because most every major world Metropolis (especially the Old World ones) has at least a couple levels of Undercity going on.

I was down in the part open to tourists a few years ago, it was neat, though really cold compared to above ground. The entrance was in some part of town that as due to be demolished due to the olympics coming, so I think that’s why it closed. Wish I’d gotten to see more if it.

Yeah, for Beijing precisely(the campaign chiefly took place in the metropoles of South-East Asia), otherwise it wouldn’t have surprised me that much. I’m well aware that there’s places like this all over the world, but those pictures look pretty much exactly like the hidden Beijing underground I dreamed a couple of years ago.

Is there normally a lot of variety in subterranean architecture? I would reckon that most underground cities look like the same dank shithole, but maybe with different posters.

Montreal has just about the biggest underground city in the world. It’s really just a bunch of malls and subway passages, but still vast.

Give it the right conditions though and it too can become a shithole.
