Matt is either gay or really, really weird. (I’m not sure which yet, but I’m leaning towards the latter.)

I think the answer is “both”. Seriously, that ninja mask? WTF???

I agree with your assessments of the dances 100%, though I think I liked Twitch and Kherrington a bit more than you did. But, wow, LOVED Chelsea and Mark and LOVED Katee and Joshua. Last night was a definite “save the best for last” situation x2.

Oh, and I completely second your motion re: Mary Murphy. Last season was my first season to watch the show, and she seemed somewhat annoying, but mostly harmless. This season she seems drunk or lobotomized or something. She isn’t even adding that extra “I know more about ballroom than anyone here” thing she used to add. She’s just ridiculous. What the hell?

I didn’t think Kourtni and Matt were bottom 3 worthy. The judges criticized Matt’s uprightness, which I thought worked for the character of his piece. (Perhaps the ninja mask might have helped.)

Although the judges praised the Dori-disco I found it weak; therefore I put Will and Jessica in the bottom three over Kourtni and Matt. Jess doesn’t live up to Will’s potential, and I am none too fond of her personality. What personality?

Tyce’s dance was TERRIBLE…and NOT AFFRICAN! I wish the judges would step up and say when choreography blows! The choreographer still gets a paycheque, and as artists they should recognise that not all of their creations will be successes. It the judges can call out the dancers, why not the choreographers???? Nigel seems to have no bones about complaining about wardrobe…

I really appreciate Alan Shankman’s comments and criticisms. Although I realize this show’s aim is not to educate viewers about dance, it was refreshing to hear constructive advice and dance lingo. Mary and Nigel are such windbags, and I’m beginning to wondering if both of them are on crack. Nigel is making far too many comments about bums and crotches this season, and Mary needs a bedazzled muzzle.

Yeah, I actually liked the Kourtni and Matt routine too (although Nigel probably had a point when he essentially said it would be too weird to get them many votes).

I disagree that Will is getting a free pass – what little I know about dance leads me to the impression he’s scary good, but (like Twitch) he’s a lot better than his partner, so he’s coasting a little bit. I guess bottom three wouldn’t be awful for them, as it might shake him up a little, and he could (hopefully) get a better partner. It’s not good when your own intro package is calling your partner out for not living up to your ability.

The Chelsea and Mark number was awesome. I had to replay through it a couple of times and there’s some great moment in almost every sequence.

All the dancers (who aren’t Will and Twitch) could learn a lot from Katee and Joshua. They don’t strike me as near the most talented/good looking/charismatic individuals on the show by a large margain – but they actually appear to be having fun and working with each other. I was worried that their “Broadway” routine would be a one-trick pony – but it goes to show that attitude can take you a lot farther than just raw skill.

And finally having never watched previous seasons – I’m not sure I could have watched this show before the advent of the PVR – the ability to “commercial skip” over Mary’s shrill caterwauling is a deal-breaker.

I’m not familiar – will they split up couples or did you put in one of the names wrong? Splitting up couples seems more interesting than just sending two people home because one sucked hard.

@Coren

From the bottom three pairs the judges choose 1 guy and 1 girl to go home. Doesn’t have to be from the same team

I actually yelled at my TV while they were masturbating over Will. Twice. (It was ‘crawl out of his ass and actually watch him dance’) I suspect that while he is DEBBIE ALLEN’S PROTEGE that she mentored him in acting rather than dancing. That would explain why I haven’t been able to watch an entire routine of his and generic white girl #812.

Re: Mary Murphy

This won’t be the first time I’ve complained about her on this site, nor (if you keep blogging about the show) will it be the last. She’s really getting to me… the talent involved with SYTYCD raises it over even “legitimate” reality TV (think Top Chef or Project Runway) to the level of near-professional entertainment, but it’s still hard to take it as seriously as it deserves when every single talented act is offered a spot on the “Hot Tamale Train.” I really think she should be fired: there’ve been times when I’ve turned off SYTYCD, one of the few reality shows I respect, simply due to her cackling.

And that is terrible.

^Yep. She’s the reason why I stopped watching the show entirely. I just couldn’t stand her and lost a lot of respect for the show that not only hired her but kept her there. :-p
