A year ago, Colin Farrell gave a homeless man he had met previously $2000 worth of clothes and first and last month’s rent on a place to live, and told him about addiction support therapy and what it could do for him. (Farrell met the man when he helped him win a radio contest years previous – the radio station offered money to anybody who brought them Colin Farrell, so Farrell found said homeless man and brought him to the station.)
Today, that man is clean and sober and a valued member of his church community.
So, go Colin Farrell!

Props to Farrell — never thought one way or the other about him before, so this helps — and major props to the gent for taking full advantage of this opportunity.
Also, is there a more intrusive way to watermark your photographs? Seriously?

Yeah, that watermark is a bit much… Sort of unnecessary, too, since they aren’t giving the option of buying the photo, so if someone did snag it, Mr. Ikos wouldn’t be losing any money.
Don’t read the comments on the first linked story. (She said in a comments section OH THE IRONY.) It’s astonishing how, when you read a news story that for once is actually nice and cheerful and makes you want to be optimistic and restores your faith in humanity, the very first comment is some putz sneering about how giving a homeless guy money is not going to help him. Thankfully, the second story proves that commenter wrong, in spades.

But a nice story. Not everyone on the streets can just work a little harder and get out, just like that. It’s not a matter of laziness all the time. Some people need a hand up.

He also donated his salary from a Terry Gilliam movie to Heath Ledger’s daughter, since he was cast in the part after Ledger’s death and he learned that Ledger died before he could write his newborn daughter into his Will.

I totally agree with the homeless guy. In Bruges was pretty good.
You know, what’s worse about the stupid comment on the other site is it’s fundamentally wrong. He didn’t just give money He also told the guy where to find help, went and set him up with housing and clothing, and went all the way with helping.
The only reasonable response to the story is imitation, or at least appreciation.
What you guys are missing is that the first time Farrell gave this guy money ($2000!) it didn’t help him at all. Four years later he was still on the street. So the commenters on the first article are right. Money _and_ advice/help finding a place to live did help the guy, just money didn’t do anything.
