To this day, I still have no idea what Web 2.0 is supposed to be.
As far as I’ve ever been able to tell, Web 2.0 is a catch-all term for the rise of websites that are defined by user-generated content. Whereas users go to CNN.com to see what content CNN has posted, users go to MySpace.com to see what other users have posted–the site’s owner is providing nothing except the technology to allow users to entertain and provide service to one another.
This is considered revolutionary because in the old days (Web 1.0), if you wanted to get a million people to watch your cat doing something stupid you had to obtain your own website and host your own video file–today it’s as easy as signing into YouTube, so more people are doing it. Which means more stupid people are doing it.
As long as they keep making free amateur porn, Web 2.0 is my favorite thing in the world.
