I wouldn’t presume to guess where the psychological need for hero worship comes from, but I guarantee its not going to stop suddenly just because its either Michael Jackson being targeted posthumously or someone like Peter King whining about the attention MJ is getting.
While places like Graceland and Dollywood stand, and icons are immortalized in statue form like the Fonz in Milwaukee, WI and Rocky in Philadelphia, PA, hero worship will always be alive and well in American culture.
Amazingly enough, I think this is the first day in a long time that I didn’t really *hear* anything about MJ. I think the only bit that I saw was one of those running screen crawls on MSNBC’s Morning Joe that said something about Joe Jackson saying MJ’s kids could be performers. (WTF NO.)
I’m trying to listen to the chorus, but there seems to be some other stimuli in this video, presenting a louder message of “PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ME I AM IMPORTANT.”
Jim: you do understand the meaning of the video right? “The media has made a circus of me, enough of the sensationalist bullshit.” It was at the height of rumor-mongering about his personal life, most of which were completely made up.
Methinks Stephen Colbert declared the media coverage of MJ’s death to be itself dead somewhat prematurely. Particularly now that LaToya is crying murder. *sigh*
As for the video, no question that Jim Blashfield did great work (I’m basing this only on this and Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” even though he made many other videos, but feel I’m on solid ground), and the part in the last minute or so where he is actually dancing with the Elephant Man’s bones was clever.
Hmmm… Joe Jackson turning young family members into performing stage monkeys to make a buck. Sounds vaguely familiar, but I just can’t see it happening. Who could possibly be that greedy?
“BY HIM! He planted that crap about him sleeping in an oxygen chamber himself.”
Says who? Jackson explained in an Oprah interview that the picture in question was simply taken to showcase the cool shit he bought for a hospital after treating his burn injuries. National Enquirer attached the crazy story to it afterwards. There are conflicting stories of course, but they’re hardly more credible.

I don’t think the media here pays attention to ANYTHING, much less unwanted, though spot-on, advice.
Ahhhh…Jim Blashfield, one of the greatest animators ever.

I think Jay Smooth said it best (he usually does).

Upper Deck is about to release some seriously intense MJ cards:

Gotta catch ’em all!
Jackson’s body as a theme park full of amusement rides is an inspired bit of visualization.
