Holy shit, the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance Canada is one of the best audition episodes I’ve ever seen.
Melanie, that eighteen-year-old “first-time auditioner” dancing like a female version of Brandon? Only two “funny” bad auditions in two hours, and both over with relatively quickly? More sick auditions in one episode than I think I’ve ever seen? Leah Miller successfully being funny on purpose? Emmanuel Sandhu actually not sucking at all?
Also, we have something in the water here that makes Mary Murphy scream, like, 95 percent less and actually act like the capable, rational and intelligent judge that she was in the first two seasons. AND NO, AMERICA, YOU MAY NOT HAVE IT.

Now, this may be my own ignorance here, but I feel, as an American, that is my duty to point this out: isn’t Canada the 2nd largest country in the world?
Lots of space. Itty-bitty population. That’s the secret equation at work here. (And it explains why while Lord of the Rings–any installment–routinely monopolized our domestic box office every year one of the movies came out here, it still never made more than $44 million per go-by. Because we simply don’t have enough people in our movie-going audience to sell $100 million dollars’ worth of tickets, to anything.)
I’m Canadian, in case you wondered.
Hey hey hey!!!!!!!!!
I think I mentally high fived you from the other side of the city tonight, because our dancers are so incredible!
I actually teared up during that Chinese girl’s Mongolian dance because it was so beautiful.
And that last guy? The one who tried out last year and got rejected and then trained a lot for a year and came back with the most amazing leaps and pirouettes?
I’m so pumped. Especially after that lackluster American season.
When hollywood start putting dance scenes in their films again, I’ll make it a point to care which country has the better dancers.
We will have the decrazifying substance or we will take it by force!
Due to Newfoundland being a 3rd world country when it comes to television I only got to see a small part of the show tonight and will have to wait for Much Music reruns Sunday. The guy who tried out last year and didn’t make it. Then came back and did that sick tap routine was amazing. Although there was on contemporary kid who they gushed over and I thought it was just meh. He did all the moves.. but nothing that made me think he could do anything more than just the moves. Very soulless.. but it will sort itself out. Still excited to see how they are going to stack the HELL out of the US season in Sept against DWTS
Shucks. As the Americans aren’t keen on importing television, I have to watch this on the internet. Sounds good though–something to lift my spirits after the abysmal season 5.
Watching this means that I’ll be watching four (ABDC [Sun], DWTS [Mon-Tues], SYTYCD [Wed-Thurs] and SYTYCDC [other]) dance shows per week during the fall season. Weeping is expected.
Two questions:
When the shows run concurrently, will there be two SYTYCD bloggin’s per week?
Having only been able to glance over the last season, in looking around for performances i’ve found that a lot of people hating on Amy Wright. Is she the hack they say she is?
@Tarpo:
There are these things called the “BitTorrents” upon which one who has, hypothetically, been unable (or forgotten) to watch certain television programmes can, hypothetically, watch them at their leisure. Even if the television programs are, hypothetically, Canadian.
