What, no Statler and Waldorf?

ReplyReply

Stalet and Waldorf have very little agency. While they have the potential to be as lawful evil as Bunson (and lawful evil is clearly the right place, given that their behavior comes from being paying customers), they’ve never mangled Beaker the way he does.

Swedish Chef would be another lawful evil type.

All this makes Sam an inspired Lawful Neutral choice.

The Muppet Newscaster seems like another good example of Lawful Good. But you aren’t going to throw out Kermit to use him.

I can’t remember the name of Mad Bomber Muppet anymore. This makes me sad…

That would be Crazy Harry. The only one of the placements I would question would be the redoubtable Miss Piggy, but then again all the others fit so well, who would you move?

Oh, nice. About the only thing I’d change would be TN: it seems like a fine slot for Rowlf. “I finish work, I go home, read a book, have a couple of beers, take myself for a walk, and go to bed.”

Personally, Bunson doesn’t really work for me as LE, I agree that the Swedish Chef or S&W would fit there…also, I’d take Sweetums out, move Piggy to TN and make Uncle Deadly NE.

Of course, this now calls for a Sesame Street Alignment Chart. And the SSAC demands Super Grover as Chaotic Good.

I’d figure Crazy Harry’s alignment as Chaotic Explosion, personally.

As a non-D&D player, I have to admit I sometimes get a bit confused about the difference between “Neutral” and “Chaotic”, especially as it applies to Evil. On the original chart, what makes Spider-Man Neutral Good vs. Wolverine’s Chaotic Good?

Steve, from the internet said on March 8th, 2011 at 12:43 pm

lawful/neutral/chaotic – supports and actively works with authority figures like kings, barons, magistrates etc./is authority-agnostic (i.e. their first question will be “are they doing good” or “how does it help me to work with them” / actively dislikes authority figures and given the choice will work against them.

The difference between Spiderman and Wolverine is that one of them has Serious Issues from being the unwilling subject of extremely painful Secret Evil Government Experiments (and also says ‘snikt, bub’ a lot)

[…] Alignment chart: The Muppet Show. I really feel like Dr. Bunsen Honeydew is getting a bit of a bad rap […]

Everyone gets confused about alignments, because it is a fusion of two basically incompatible systems. The basic extremes of the system are (despite the grid format making it loook like the corners are the extreme points) Law, Chaos, Good, and Evil. Good and Evil are pretty much what it says on the tin.
Law and Chaos are more about how you go about it. Law is about working the system to achieve greater goals. Chaos seeks their goals on an individual basis.
A Lawful Evil villain would build a totalitarian police state to accumulate all power in his own hands. A Chaotic Evil one would sow violence and knock down any social structure until you have something like Somalia where nobody has the strength to challenge him.
To the Neutral Evil, either is just a means to an end, and which he chooses is probably determined by the resources at hand.
Likewise, a Lawful Good hero sees laws and organizations as useful and necessary tools to build a better society for everyone, and will regretfully accept minor flaws in the system, until a better one comes along. A Chaotic Good one will pursue the good of any given individual without regard to the system.
A hero focused on Neutral Good will see the advantages of both, and try to balance the two based on the circumstances.
So what does this all mean? Spiderman is Neutral because he leaves his villains tied up for the cops, where Wolverine is more likely to decide that some other option is more likely to stop repeat offenders.

‘Course, I immediately remembered that bit in Muppet Treasure Island where Sweetums smashes the PIRATES with a log.

KERMIT: Uh…thank you, but I thought you were on their side?

SWEETUMS: Are you kiddin’? I LOVE you guys! Aw haw haw haw!

Aside from Sam and maybe Scooter and Rowlf, I don’t think there are many Lawful characters on the Muppet Show.

Even Kermit has admitted an affinity for chaos (what was the line? “You think I’m sane? I HIRED the others”).

Heck, Honeydew may SEEM composed but – lack of deranged laughter aside – he’s a textbook mad scientist.

Is Sweetums True Neutral in the same way a bear or shark are True Neutral? I’m pretty sure he’s tried to eat guests in the past.

Sorry, but Crazy Harry is the definition of Chaotic Neutral. The only Muppet I can think of who might genuinely fit CE is Uncle Deadly.

Cray Harry derives orgasmic gratification out of blowing stuff up in defiance of others. At least Animal can be leashed or redirected and yields to certain individuals.

I agree with the person who suggested Rowlf as True Neutral. He’s mostly about playing the piano.

Mahna Mahna might be another True Neutral type. Except that we don’t really know much about him.

Miss Piggy isn’t Neutral Evil. At all. Frankly, I think it’s sexist that you pegged her as such.

ReplyReply

tdsoc,
Miss Piggy is a self righteous, self absorbed, shallow, greedy control freak that uses physical abuse to dominate those around her. Even in her love for Kermit which is not unconditional it is still all about her. Neutral Evil is kind and merciful.

I think that the Swedish Chef should have been True Neutral, ’cause Sweetums is clearly on Kermit’s side.

“Shouldn’t you be helping the pirates?”

“Are you kidding? I LOVE you guys!”

Swedish Chef… he’s on no side but his own.

Also, I want to see the alignment chart for the special guests.

Miss Piggy is evil. If you don’t realize that you aren’t paying attention.

“Also, I want to see the alignment chart for the special guests”

Steve Martin is Chaotic Neutral and Alice Copper is Chaotic Evil. Past that I’ll have to do some thinking.

Bunsen Honeydew is really a borderline case for Lawful Evil, but his treatment of Beaker does make a good case for it.

I have to agree with the others on this board that Rowlf is definitely more true neutral than Sweetums.

You need another one with Fraggles and Sesame Street characters (bonus points for placing either Sam the Robot or Barkley)

RE Piggy:

There are worse characters in the show. Heck, you could argue that there are worse PIGS in the show (Link springs to mind but the episode where the pigs take over indicates that Piggy might be slightly less evil than the other swine). However she’s easily the most PROMINENT evil Muppet so I think that’s why she got put in the chart.

It does not seem like the Muppets without the Great Gonzo.

How has nobody mentioned Scooter? LN or LE?

ReplyReply
mygif

Er, I mentioned Scooter as potentially Lawful when I was saying that most Muppets aren’t (I consider even Kermit to be kind of iffy).

I have to see Scooter as Lawful Neutral. He’s a pretty amiable guy but he’s not above pulling a “my uncle owns the theater” to get what he wants.
