So I’m a little confused and the archive hasn’t helped.

(Thanks for tagging every comic, by the way. Makes searching the thing way easier.)

Is Apali Rayana’s mother or what? I thought she was for awhile, then I thought she was, like, someone the Sultan married who isn’t Rayana’s mother but filled that role, but it would appear it’s also possible she’s just some sort of important adviser-type lady who lives in the palace?

I am legitimately confused.

She’s not Rayana’s mother and she’s not married to the Caliph. She’ll get a little more background relatively soon, don’t worry. I know it’s a bit confusing, but I wanted to go a little more naturalistic and sometimes introductions get missed.

Fair enough. I’m not even sure her name is mentioned in the comic itself yet; I only figured it out because of the tags.
