I wanted to mess with it for a couple of reasons, but then talked myself out of it.

First, I have a soft spot so as to not see Bender as “evil” exactly, but then you take a step back and, yeah.

Second, I wanted Kif on there real bad, but I don’t know who to replace. Amy is the loosest piece, but he doesn’t fit CN, and his natural position, NG, is amply filled by Zoidberg, who I don’t want to move/lose, so I ended up back where you landed.

I kinda wanted to put Nixon’s head in here, in place of Bender, but then where does Bender go?

Too much thought this early in the morning.

P.S.: Scruffy is the most perfect TN in the history of these charts. Possibly in the history of everything.

Leela: mostly agree with this

Zoidberg: good? that’d be kind of a stretch, he can be an a-hole sometimes & I don’t think good really qualifies when you’re a gluttonous mofo that would consume anything if he had his way or do anything for food

The professor: wouldn’t Mom be a better choice. sure she’s the representation of capitalism gone evil but she ‘s still running after the cold hard cash

I’d probably move Zoidberg to CN. When you get down to it, he’s a selfish beast. Only, we can sympathize with him because he’s the selfish beast in all of us.

But Amy isn’t a very good NG. Kif is, but Amy is more TN — she mostly just plods along in her own monied world without really conscious moral decision.

Bender is more evil than Richard Nixon and the Robot Devil combined.

Zoidberg’s good. He desperately wants friends and to please people. You can argue his motives are impure, but this grading system is incredibly simplistic anyway, and doesn’t really take into account “motive”. If you do good, you’re good. Or neutral. Whatever.

The only ones I might switch are the Professor and Zapp. Surely being an agent of DOOP makes Zapp Lawful? And the Professor has worked for Mom as well as for himself.

Like people have said upthread, few of those characters are the best examples on the show of their alignments. Is Zoidberg really good? Is Leela really lawful? Bender is evil, but is he really more evil than the Robot Devil? Mom must fit in some Evil slot better than whoever’s actually there. Et cetera.

However, if you bring in antagonists like Mom and infrequent supporting characters, then every part of the chart would be some one-dimensional joke character, like the Neutrals for True Neutral. (Or would they be Lawful Neutral? Oh no, it’ll take a dozen comments to figure that out!) If you just limit it to the Planet Express crew (and Scruffy and Zapp seem close enough under the circumstances), then yeah, that chart is exactly right.

But regardless of filling in the blanks on the chart, I love the quotes. Each one is a great summary of the characters, and the show itself.

But I’d argue that the Professor still abides by the general societal/moral code while Zapp despite his position in law enforcement often takes things into his own hands doing what he thinks is best.

to everyone who says Zoidberg is good, remember that he had no qualms at trying to eviscerate Fry in a fight for a female humanoid crab, so neutral is more like it

Bender is definitely an agressive evil kleptomaniac greedy selfish hedonistic (in human form) trash can & the best source of dark humor in the show so kudos to MGK he’s indeed CE .

Remember that Zoidberg is so good that he actually got a present from Robot Santa.

His fight with Fry happened while he was in the throes of a mating frenzy, much like Spoke during his fight with Kirk, which the Futurama scene lampoons.

He seems greedy, it always seemed to me, because he was so much more pathetic and destitute than the rest of the cast (which is really saying something) that he is half starving all the time.

Any harm he does to his friends generally comes from his monumental (but well-intended) ineptitude.

The only problem with Bender being labeled as Chaotic Evil is that, if you think about it, there are plenty of other characters more evil than he is, and most of them are robots.

@ Macha Velma: more evil robots? maybe but Bender is still the most memorable one & definitely manipulative, in the same christmas episode he manipulated a choir of robots to “collect” money from old ladies. sure RobotDevil could qualify but then he needs to establish pacts to properly work while Bender’s only law is cash’n Boose

RobotDevil would be Lawful Evil, of course. He does bad things to people in an orderly fashion to enforce a moral code. Same with Robot Santa. Bender belongs where he is because even when he does go out of his way to help his friends, he does it because their HIS friends, damn it!

I started to argue Zoidberg isn’t “good,” but realized most of his “bad” behavior stems from being on the bottom of the crew’s pecking order.

I think the Zoid has enough evil tendencies to be considered true neutral. Then we could fit Kif in where he belongs at Neutral Good!

I sort of agree with the “There are better minor character of LG and CE slots” (Kif or possibly Nibbler in his super smart phase would be better LG than Leela). I also agree with the importance of putting the major characters on the chart.

The Prof was clearly lawful evil back in the day and they one reason people see him as a crazy old man now is that … well, he’s a crazy old man.

Who would you put in the LE spot? Wernstrom? Morbo? Cubert? Mom? Amy’s parents? Even it you argue that they’re better representatives of the alignment than Hubert, they certainly aren’t better representatives of the show.
