I can’t find this anywhere.

What the hell font did they use for the titles on the original Dragonriders of Pern books? The curvy italic one? I’ve used all the major font identification engines online and none of them has a clue.

Given it was done in 1983, it may have been custom-lettered by hand.

The intersection of the R and A would seem to indicate that… I’d expect that only the characters in the title have been created. Perhaps some enthusiastic fan has extrapolated the rest?

Definitely hand drawn lettering. The A’s and N’s are dead giveaways. The artist most likely used a stencil to apply them to the painting.

I leafed through some covers, & the letters visibly change, so they were done by hand at points.

I’ve made a font from scans before. Would that be helpful here?

I have come across a few fonts that are “DRoP” based. Sadly nothing great.
