This here site has been nominated1 for Best Humour Blog2 in the 2008 Canadian Blog Awards,3 and I would particularly like to win the award, on the basis of I have not won any awards since I played kiddie league soccer and even then I never got to be a forward but instead always got stuck as a defensive midfielder, which if you know kiddie league soccer is the equivalent of deep right field.
So please go and vote for my blog! Assuming I make it to the later rounds I will probably beg you all to vote again, which I am sure you will appreciate deeply. As additional incentive, I will leave this post open for comments from people who vote, and anybody who wants me to weigh in on a topic may request a post on the topic of their choice.4
EDIT TO UPDATE: Looking at my competition, there’s a bunch of personal blogs that smack of “my friend thinks I’m funny,” a couple of political blogs known for being snarky and sarcastic, one or two other blogs that actually genuinely try to write funny things on a regular basis, and Raymi the Minx, who I believe is in this category on the basis that her blog is unintentionally funny. So if I don’t win, I promise to throw a massive tantrum and send you all rotten eggs in the mail. You have been warned!
- And I didn’t even do it myself! I am so pleased. [↩]
- Which finally answers the question of “what category this blog goes in for blog awards.” I would have given myself a nomination in Best Miscellaneous Blog, but they don’t have that one. [↩]
- AKA “The Juno Awards of blog awards,” assuming you know what the Juno Awards are; you may not [↩]
- Which in no way means I’m guaranteeing that I’ll write about it, but I will at least promise to consider it, and that is nearly as good. [↩]

*Yes, for you.
In fact, I do know what the Juno awards are. But only because Alanis Morissette has one, or several, or something. Someone else I’ve begun to like a lot recently has won a couple as well, but I can’t remember whom.
I’ll totally vote, because if you win, then I’ll be a contributor to an award-winning blog.
What? My ego knows few bounds.
(no, but seriously, I vote solely because I think this may well be my favorite blog. I mean, up there with Neil Gaiman’s journal and Books I Done Read, which are teh raddness)
Voted for you.
What’s your take been on post-election, pre-inauguration Obama and his cabinet?
Voted for you.
Rex the Wonder Dog vs. Squirrel Girl
No prep time
No sidekicks
Who wins?
Oh come on. Rex in a walk. That’s not even a post.
The Juno Awards? I think that’s a little insulting. At least the CBA have some>/i> relevance.
Voted for ya.
Just keep making with the comics posts, and I’m solid gold.
Dr. Doom vs. Lex Luthor in an pointlessly complex death trap contest.
“Rex the Wonder Dog vs. Squirrel Girl
No prep time
No sidekicks
Who wins?”
Not a fair fight. Squirrel Girl has considerable power in her sidekicks; Rex is own dog, so to speak.
So, easily Rex.
“Dr. Doom vs. Lex Luthor in an pointlessly complex death trap contest.”
Lex, because Doom will not employ the Ponies in a mere snare.
Will the rotten eggs be sent via Standard Mail or Bulk?
Voted MGK. Dogs we can believe in!
I voted! Now to figure out which topic I’d like you to post on… hmm… Ah! I have it!
I’ve always wondered how you would present the relationship between Element Lad and Shvaughn/Sean Erin if you wrote the Legion.
I voted! I’d still love to hear your thoughts about John Sergeant getting kicked off the UK’s version of SYTYCD for being too popular with the public.
Why can’t we have nice things?
Voted for you. Then I decided to click on Raymi The Minx because it sounded kinda interesting from your description. BAAAAD mistake.
Anyhoo, my post suggestion: Actually, I don’t really have one. Something about Deadpool maybe?
I voted yes on MGK, I felt it was the least I could do in light of the joy you have brought me. Oh man, I forgot about doing nothing, that would have been the least I could do. Darn you MGK for subverting my ennui.
I’m just so full of voting this year, I can’t get enough of it! Feel my enfranchisement!
I voted for you (though I feel a bit guilty having never visited the other sites, still) I would like a Doctor Who related post, I don’t really care what it’s about, maybe what you’d like to see in Moffat’s run as producer/head writer.
Done, gladly. And to paraphrase Don Corleone: Someday, and may that day never come, I’ll call upon you to do a solid for me …
Having voted I find myself wondering, in the light of a now-vanished banner picture, whether you are for or against the One World Government (you know, the one that’s going to employ ninja dogs to violate the Second Amendment rights of god-fearing Americans).
Also, as a 90s-raised X-Men geek (who then went back and read a whole load of Captain Britain), I have to wonder: Gambit, Jubilee, Psylocke, Generation X. Any opinions worth posting about?
Will: On being a 90s raised X-Men geek: word brother.
I have voted for you, thus ensuring my place in the One World Government! Perhaps I can talk Rex for walkies?
Or you could tell us who your pick for Avengers/JLA would be?
HOPE AND CHANGE everybody, Hope and Change. MGK 2008.
The One World Government will take away their guns with ninja dogs!
I voted for you because you’ve made work more than bearable for me. Thanks!
I half expect you to bring this up sooner or later anyway, but I just don’t know how I’ll be able to take Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool without some classic MGK rationalization/mockery.
Voted. Some writing-related post, please, which would probably coincide with one of the other requests.
I voted for you and I’ve got a request for a “Who’s Who” hopefully sometime before the end of the year. If there’s an entry on the Rainbow Raider in the book, I’d be interested in reading your opinions on him on of these Thursdays.
Voted and pimped out to facebook.
