I love your optimism…
But remember, the Netherlands always chokes when it matters.
It’s happened in THREE WORLD CUPS. Two in the 70s and once in the 80s I believe. So, according to sports logic enforced by ESPN and other sportscasters, it will ALWAYS happen. Always.
I’m feeling borderline on your Netherlands prediction but I’m surprised you’d put Ghana over Uruguay. Uruguay haven’t conceded a goal yet, and have shown they have real firepower up front. Ghana has failed to truly impress and are missing Essien.
Spain over Netherlands!
Mexico to beat Argentina? I strongly disagree sir! Also I am optimistic about England despite all evidence pointing to a likely German victory.
It’s my dodgiest prediction, maybe, but – I think Ghana has intangibles, much like Sout Korea did in 2002. They need to deliver well for Africa. That counts.
So far, you have a 100% accuracy rate. However, I highly doubt that Netherlands will make it that far. Beating Slovakia is a given, but Brazil? No way.
Brazil isn’t their usual overpowered self. They’re scoring the goals and winning the matches but they’re also playing rather terrible football.
It’s a funny thing Brazil. They’re just always favorites. They’re so sure they’ll score and win that they always do just that, even when watching them play should say otherwise.
Not that Robinho and Kaká aren’t godlike, but you know what i mean.
I’d absolutely take this prediction, because it would be just wonderful to see an African team in the SFs, but I think you’ve – hey, wasn’t this a topic before? – massively underestimated the South American teams all of who, barring Chile, I expect to win their R16 matches – additionally this has been the European federation’s worst-ever showing at a WC, and I’m pretty certain therefore that either Brazil or Argentina (my £5 bet for the final) will win it; have started to lean toward the latter, who are actually the more creative and exciting of the two.
Andrew: Uruguay played possibly the weakest Group to get this far as well. And as you can see, they’ve already conceded a goal to South Korea.
I think the US is being written off too soon – I don’t doubt they’ll have a lot of trouble with Uruguay but I think they make it past Ghana. Netherlands definitely won’t take Brazil
Coren: yeah, having seen their showing against South Korea I’m a little more skeptical but still… they score. A lot.
Well I look smart right about now. I think Ghana puts em down
@Duncan
Haha, yeah it was a topic before.
Anyways, i agree on the Chile-Brazil assesment, they’ll have a really hard time without Medel and Ponce in the back (a shame though, they had so much going for them this time around). On the rest of the South Americans i’m inclined on agreeing with you as well.
Argentina has monstrous offense, but their defense is seriously lacking. That’s not WC level defense, and at some point it will backfire on them. Maybe Mexico, maybe Germany.
And Spain is still not playing to their pre-WC standard. If the Portuguese have a good day, they could easily take them, unless they step up something fierce. If not them, then Germany for sure at their current level.
Actually, I’m expecting Argentina’s defense to backfire ont them in the semi-finals.
If I were of the betting kid, my money would be in a final match with Brazil and Spain, Brazil winning. I’ll concede, though, that I’m a bit biased, beeing brazilian.
