Space Paranoids FTW. Hell yeah! I wonder where Tron himself is in this film? Obsoleted by years of Technology? And given how fast time passes in the electronic world, shouldn’t Flynn be, um, dead by now?
Perhaps this is one in which it is better not to think about what is happening too deeply.
Evil Flynn isn’t the Master Control Program, but its the old CLU, upgraded, who then goes nuts because it cannot stand his creator/daddy spending time with his human kid, so he kidnaps and traps dear old creator/daddy and embarks on a 20 year oedipal driven power trip.
I hope you do will not think less of me for saying this, but when I first heard they were making a new TRON, I was hardcore Ebeneezer Scrooge about it.
“Humbug,” said I. “I do love the original movie so, but it’s hardly relevant to today, is it? Kids don’t know or care about TRON, and even if they did…the point of the old movie was to speculate that the crudely pixellated 2-D characters and text-based software programs might actually live fully rendered 3-D lives inside the world of the computer. But in the 21st century we have graphic user interfaces, and our contemporary video games are already in 3-D and actually look MORE sophisticated than the world of Tron did in 1982.” Even the first trailer that I saw didn’t do anything for me.
This latest trailer, though…I don’t know if it was seeing old Jeff Bridges vs young Jeff Bridges or what…
…but believe me when I tell you I HAVE BEEN VISITED BY THREE GHOSTS THIS NIGHT.
Biggest shame of this film? The credits are NOT showing Cindy Morgan anywhere in this. Look, I know Lacey Underall is now in her 40s or something, but dammit we Gen Xers want our idols back!!!
Here’s her website: dammit, she looks like she can still fit into the spandex!!! Shame, Disney/Pixar! SHAME!
IMDB has Bridges listed in the double role as Flynn and Clu 2.0, so it looks like the idea of him being Clu is at least partially correct, either a newer version of Flynn’s program or an upgraded or MCP merged version.
It looks pretty damn good, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
For the past few years I have pondered what the Tron sequel would look like and I am curious to see if the setting will take place in one mainframe or will this involve the internet at all? Would the movie be populated by vicious viruses, for example.
Then again, we already saw all that when Reboot was on the air. π
God, I’m excited for this movie. I have to admit, I don’t want the villain to have anything to do with the MCP. For one, it would take the victory of the first movie almost entirely away; for two, it’s been done; and for three, doing the MCP but not bringing David Warner back for even a cameo would be just wrong.
Love the Black Hole poster, but the cynic in me wonders if they would have bothered with it if they didn’t have a Black Hole remake in development.

Do we know that aging happens in TRON-world? Yes, some programs look older than others, but maybe they were written (“born”) that way…
I’m calling it here – evil Flynn is the MCP.
Technology is amazing. It can even de-age Jeff Bridges to his Tron-era age!
Bruce Boxleitner does appear in human form: logic dictates he will appear in TRON form as well.
Holy Shnikies…
god damn daft punk! stop being such a tease…
I saw this trailer last night. Why, oh dear gods above WHY, do we have to wait until December for this!?!
I second the call of Evil Flynn = MCP.
Definitely need to see THIS in the theater.
Fuck.
Yes.
Evil Flynn is Clu, of course.
Iβm calling it here β evil Flynn is the MCP.
Not only that, the MCP assimilated the CLU program (which had the yellow lighting and looked like Jeff Bridges – his user) in the first movie, so…
(Yeah, I’ve been watching a lot of the original lately, it was on HDNet.)
And drat, I was ninja’d by Matthew Johnson. For some reason my webpage is loading the comments SLOW today… π
Ohhh early Birthday present for me!
I want a Death Frisbee for my birthday now!
Group of nerds this big and I can’t be the only one to notice the poster for The Black Hole in the kid’s room.
Snake, I saw it too. First thing that popped out to me.

Black Hole poster, original Mac 128K or 512K, Rubik’s Cube, some comic book cover I couldn’t make out. I’m sure the set decorators had fun.

Actually, it would be pretty easy to be both. It looked like the MCP assimilated CLU in the beginning part of the movie after all. π
No Cindy Morgan – crime of the century

This had better be as good as the trailer, otherwise hordes of geeks will storm the gates of Disney and burn that sucker down.

EVIL JEFF COMPUTER BRIDGES! The first TRON Legacy trailer is still my favorite, though. Just the bikefight and the sudden reveal.
