I’d been planning this for a while: I wanted a lengthy conversation here but I didn’t to use word bubbles for it.
Luckily, Dave Sim had this idea in, like, 1983, so I didn’t have to invent it. But it’s not really a reference, per se: it’s a use of one element of Sim’s visual design (and one that I feel has gone wildly underused since Sim used it).
I suppose reference is the wrong term, since it is a very useful way to do a conversation. But the “Illusionist” and “Kevillist” descriptions still made me smile, especially since that’s from the part of Cerebus that I consider to be good.
