The Slap is based on one of those novels that is going to be haunting Australian university reading lists for the next 30 years because it ticks every single box of middle brow Australian literature. Immigrants! (The mediterranian kind, not the uncomfortable middle eastern or asian kind) Middle class people! Suburbia!
It’s not that it’s bad, it’s actually rather good but it is a bit of an archtype.
Every time they crack open a locker on SW, I wonder who owned it, and what happened to them. Did they die? Did they lose their job and stop being able to make payments?
Then Dave Hester starts ludicrously over-valuing stuff and I just forget about it.
