I really wish Django Unchained hadn’t been sold out because really, This Is 40 When You Are Stupidly Well-Off would have been a much better title for the latest from Judd Apatow’s Wildly Uneven Movie Factory.

Honestly? I would have just gone home if that was the only choice. I’ve got way too many DVDs to catch up on to spend ten bucks on that. 🙂
I’m a touch disappointed to hear that, honestly. However, Django is a lot of fun.
Ever since I saw ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’, I have been leery of Apatow’s ability to make a funny movie without the help of someone like Will Ferrell (e.g. ‘Talladega Nights’). And this maxim has saved me much time and money, which is considerably better spent seeing things like ‘Lincoln’.
I’ve got a soft spot for FUNNY PEOPLE because it was an ambitious movie with a lot of good parts even if it needed to have been edited pretty ruthlessly. I was hopeful this one might be another step in that direction but most of the reviews I’ve seen seem to indicate it’s just terrible.
Django was great.
But please tell me Les Mis was also sold out, and you didn’t choose This Is 40 over it.

The way it works is this: every Christmas, my brother and two sisters and I go see a movie together after Christmas dinner with our parents. This year, we were fairly evenly split: my brother and I wanted to go see Django and my sisters wanted to see Les Miserables, but my brother vetoed Miz because he didn’t think he could stay awake through it.
So we went for Django but it was sold out, which went to the second-round consensus pick of This Is 40, by which I mean “I was the only one who didn’t want to see it, and since I picked War Horse last year I wasn’t going to win this time out.”
Who knew War Horse could do so much damage?
Django was amazingly good – I look forward to seeing what you think of it when you’ve seen it.
I don’t go to movies on Christmas Day as a matter of principle, and encourage others not to as well, but man, you should have leaned on your brother hard for Les Mis after Django wasn’t going to happen.
I have been thankful for my propensity to watch movies alone ever since I learned that my brother was forced by consensus (between his girlfriend and another couple) to see Grown-Ups. Ugh.
When Django was sold out, I just went to a later showing. But then, the only reason I was at the theatre was to see Django.
Django was, as mentioned, great, but Les Mis is the best film I’ve seen this year, by a fair margin.
Someone who falls asleep during that better have been awake for the last 36 hours, minimum.
Les Mis was pretty good. As a non-musical fan, I sat through it just fine. It could’ve been a little shorter, though, I feel.
