Good God, that is a whole lot of “reality” crap….
RED WEDDING! RED WEDDING!! RED WEDDING!!!
(Because backwards, it spells Gniddewder… oh wait that’s not right.)
Okay, but seriously WHO SHOULD BE THE NEXT DOCTOR?!?? Please write a column with a (Cumber)batch of possible choices and the pros/cons of each! Pretty please?!???
(I mean yes, we all know they’ll go with somebody new and unknown, but humour us.) Some thoughts:
Martin Freeman — warm, likeable, but better at NOT understanding things than understanding them
Simon Baker — Good last name, and has essentially been playing the 3rd Doctor already for years, but maybe too old
Jim Broadbent — Can do serious and wacky both very well, but is even older
Benedict Cumberbatch — TOO MUCH AWESOMENESS IT WILL BREAK EVERYTHING
I heard someone suggest Cumberbatch for The Master rather than The Doctor. Somehow his cold demeanour seems better suited to villainy than to heroism.
Also, one time I posted a reference to the “Green Wedding” on a Facebook group (for the book series), saying it was when Robb’s militant environmentalist leanings were revealed. The joke was deleted, so I guess some people like to keep that particular tidbit under wraps as much as possible. It’s all the more shocking that way.
I just realized, I can’t wait to see your season three alignment chart for Game of Thrones. Is it possible we’ll get one without Joffrey in the evil lineup (Bolton, Frey, “the boy,” Tywin, Littlefinger)?
David Bowie as the Doctor, Tilda Swinton as the Master. Or the other way around.

Since some other people have mentioned the next Doctor now, I was wondering how you felt about the possibility of a female or non-white Doctor? It seems like every time we enter that stage between Doctors the internet gets whipped into a lather either declaring it a great idea or a terrible one, and I wondered where you stand.
Stephen Fry as The Doctor.
Hugh Laurie as either The Companion or The Master (depending on whether one prefers Wooster or House).

A practical consideration: how well would the current team write a female Doctor?
Speaking of Game of Thrones spoilers, at the beginning of this season, Arya didn’t show up until the second episode, but the description for the first episode said she’d “Meet a band of outlaws.” I pointed out “Hey, that thing in the episode description didn’t happen,” after the episode aired on a forum, and got yelled at.
How about Colin Salmon as the Doctor? He’s older, got a good voice, had some movie and TV experience.
Casting Benedict Cumberbatch as the Doctor would likely interfere with his plans of being in everything else. (Not that I’m complaining.)
