Here in this listicle Cracked includes Space Jam as one of six lousy movies which were completely outclassed by their great soundtracks. This is accurate, because Space Jam mostly sucks (Charles Barkley’s amusing cameos aside) and the album is great, but to demonstrate their point about the soundtrack, they reference “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly, which is a bad song, a song which was cliched the moment it arrived and is composed primarily of stinking cheese. It’s the worst song on the soundtrack by a country mile.
What they should have referenced is of course this:
Five great MCs at the top of their game, all working G-rated rhymes, all of them clearly having a blast, and the result is a truly epic song. I honestly don’t think Method Man has ever done a better guest MC gig in his career. “Hit ‘Em High” has not left my WinAmp playlist/mp3 player since Space Jam came out, because it is fucking great.

That song is one of my favorites on that album too. It is an excellent piece, & I’m not a big fan of rap period. But my other big one on there is Seal’s cover of “Fly Like An Eagle”. As for the list, I like Empire Records personally, & yeah the soundtrack is fun.
I’d also add Watchmen to the list. Not a great movie, but that soundtrack is amazing.
For much the same reasons, I unabashedly love Outkast’s “Land of a Million Drums” from the “Scooby-Doo” soundtrack. Heck, Big Boi specifically has the line “I pick up the mic and rock it while I’m sober for the rated G exposure.”
I really wanna see a remake of Space Jam with Rappers instead of basketball players. And just as in the original, Bill Murray comes in at the end a spits a sweet 16. Call it Def Space Jam
The article is ridiculous, because the point is really “Movies I didn’t like which have mega-selling soundtracks / singles from the movie”.
I mean, not even Madonna fans hold out “I Remember” as one of her masterpieces.
If we were going to talk forgotten movies vs. well-thought-of soundtracks I’d mention things like :
Judgement Night
Flash Gordon (1980)
The Chocolate War (Soundtrack – Yazoo, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush etc etc)
Last Action Hero
Slam Jam is also amazing.
Cracked’s listicles have been ****tarded recently. Generally their content has been declining in quality in recent years. Heck, there was a time when I genuinely LIKED most of their photoplastries.
hah. Alot of movies with Black leads throughout the nineties had incredible soundtracks. Not surprising when you realize that this decade and some change were the golden years for Hip/HopRap and RnB. Movies like Above the Rim, Boomerang, Eddie Murphys Nutty Professor films and Dr. Doolittle remakes (shit a lot of Eddie Murphy films period), Sunset Park, Waiting to Exhale, Soul Food, Men In Black, Bad Boys, John Singletons Boyz In The Hood and Poetic Justice…..My parents owned so many of these and I could go on for days….*sighs* good times
I liked Space Jam
Busta’s best guest spot is from Space Jam? Really?
“Scenario” is a thing that exists, dontchaknow.
Sorry, had to say that in a condescending voice, this being the internet and all.
MGK was said it was METHOD MAN’s best guest spot, Reynaldo Kamal Cruz. “Scenario” is pretty damn good.
Who got Bugs Bunny money I give you some time to get more carrots every time I rhyme. Can a mouse write this? Does he have long furry ears like this? Can he make hits like this? No, it’s like Jordan at the plate, you’re likely to miss.
I can’t prove it. But I just said that from memory. Be jealous.
