I can completely understand finding Team Green annoying… but honestly they’re making 100% of their racing experience.

They haven’t tried to turn the game into Survivor or the Mole; they haven’t spent a lot of time talking about the conditions in India, or ragging on the people; they’ve been open and friendly to the teams that were open and friendly to them… which just happens to also be teams they will easily crush in the final leg.

Justin can be a bit brash and over the top… but as you said he’s 100% over the top and is a super-fan of the race. If you or I were on the race and doing as well as they are, we’d probably be a little irritating to deal with too.

They’ve got some of the best bits of Team Cha Cha Cha and Team Esquire.. and I’d rather see exuberant teams tackling the race than irritated teams just schlepping through. On the other hand, they’ve ALREADY won the race with all the money and the trips so I wouldn’t object if any non-paparrazi team took the top prize.

And honestly, doesn’t the edit sort of point to the Newscasters being able to overcome them at the very end to take home the big prize?

I’ve heard a lot of people say that the edit seems to be hinting at a fall for the Green Team, but I think that may just be the editors making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. They can’t just throw up their hands and say, “Welp, it’s the Justin and Diana show,” so they have to throw in hints that other teams might push past them in the end just to keep people from tuning out.

That said, they do seem to be making a lot of Justin’s overconfidence, so I could be wrong. For the record, I don’t mind Justin’s personality–sure, he’s loud, but if that’s a sin then I’m guilty. My big problems are a) his overconfidence and boastfulness–I’ve never liked trash-talkers, even when they can back it up, so every time he does that he sets me off, and b) his treatment of Diana when they were fighting. He’s a huge chauvinist in his own way–he trusts her to execute his decisions, sure, but whenever she tries to show any actual agency in terms of how they’re going to run the Race, he shuts that down hard. It was pretty ugly to see her reduced to tears over what turned out to be a correct decision (walking instead of taxi) and to see him basically tell her that he forgave her for trying to think for herself so long as she didn’t try to do it again. 🙂

I will agree with you on that. I am not at all a fan of the way Justin treats Diana in stressful situations, since that’s pretty much when your true character reveals himself and he is an ass to her.

I forgive part of it because of the killer fatigue factor. People literally show their worst and most obnoxious faces when that hits. It’s the face that normally they never show anyone, even their loved ones. But… I only forgive part of it. Just like I only give him partial credit for realizing he was being an ass and apologizing for it. Because it was an iffy apology nd Phil shouldn’t have to point out you’re being an ass.

As for the edit.. it’s a tough line to walk. They don’t want to make it TOO obvious if Green is going to fall, and they don’t want to make it TOO obvious that they’re going to win it all. Given how they edit the race, I’m about 51/49 that the editors are setting up a reverse-reverse expectation… so the reporters will pull a surprise win.

On the other hand, I like the reporters so they are doomed.
