Word. Crecy was bad-ass. How awesome would it be to have Warren Ellis as your history teacher?
“All right, class. Today we’ll be learning about the role of midget sex-slaves in the Axis chain of command during World War II. Light your cigarettes, fire up your palms and fetch me my Red Bull.”
Take that, Umberto Eco.
The “nazi midget sex-slaves” thing appears in other Ellis’ comics than Planetary?
Ellis may have pissed me off with the changes he made when he took over Doom 2099, but he’s won me back since then.
There was Nextwave, obviously.
I also caught an episode of Justice League Unlimited the other day, which had been written by Ellis. The entire League is battling self-replicating robots, and Wonder Woman has to get the Atom to the mothership-thingy they all came from so he can see what makes it tick. At first he shrinks down so she can hold him in her hand, but after she gets partway to the ship she says “I need both hands, Professor,” and PLACES HIM IN HER CLEAVAGE!!! Pure fucking genius. It was several minutes before I’d fully stopped laughing.
It’s like a history lesson told to you at a bar.
Speaking as a history major, the best history lessons you can get come with beer. Or gin. Or both.
Mmm, Ellis. Just picked up Nextwave 1&2, and totally totally dug his Iron Man: Extremis book. Ministry of Space is also interesting.
At some point, will consider early Authority. But Crécy looks nicely slick.
Nextwave is love. BOW BEFORE ELLIS.
Seriously, how that wasn’t profitable to keep Immonen and Ellis both on the book is beyond me. Best comic Marvel was publishing, barring possibly only Slott’s She-Hulk.
… You see, I probably would have done good in school if I had history books like this.
Hell, do it for Math too, and I would have been an A fucking student.
Not that I was bad at History, I was very good, I just refused to do most of the classwork, and read the chapter before the test. I always did wonderfully on the Tests, and actually got the highest grade when finals came around, which brought me up to a nice, barely passing, C.
