From a political blog’s comments after the Maine caucuses tonight:
Any word on the percent of african-americans voting for obama?
In Maine? I’m guessing Fred and Brenda voted for Obama, and Joe voted for Clinton.

Hah!
I believe African-Americans make up about 1/2% of the total Maine population. If they have achieved any level of voting power, it is through jerrymandering that bends the very walls of space and time.
Well, that would have been true while I was growing up there. (I was one of three half-Japanese guys in Maine, and we all knew each other.) Today, while I wouldn’t describe the vast majority of Maine as anything but wonderbread white, there actually are growing populations of other ethnicities in the larger cities (yes, they have several of those), and there’s a growing Sudanese refugee population in Lewiston– which, granted, probably isn’t registered to vote for the most part.
Just wanted to throw that out there.
So Maine must be the evilest state in the entire union . . .
Not really, but it certainly is a weird blend of New England and the deep South.
I thought Lewiston’s refugees were Somali.
Dammit! They are. I feel like an ignorant ass now. Which, granted, will make the transition easier if I ever end up moving back OHHHHHHHHHH
