I always did love the punchline at the end of that.

That said, my favorite Will scene is still the one where he and Toby are writing the introduction for Bob Russell as Bartlet’s veep nominee to succeed Hoynes. And then their mockery winds up on the teleprompter. 🙂

And then of course Will becomes Russell’s campaign manager and he and Toby start hating each other for no damn reason…

I think Toby had abandonment issues. Sam left, Leo quit, Josh quit to work for Santos, Toby’s brother committed suicide due to cancer… Toby confronted Josh about that, didn’t he? It was suggested in one debate I read that Toby’s mood swings about everyone he knew leaving made him overreact to Will (who was a stranger to him) and also to self-destruct over the space shuttle news leak.

Missourians represent! We’re not afraid to elect dead people.

I think Toby had Sorkin-Abandonment issues. Much like everyone else on the damn show. Ah well; it was still decent TV, but it did peak early due to that.

But yeah, Toby’s character arc was bizarre.
