I’ve been utterly mystified by the appeal of Big Bang Theory. I’m glad Wil Wheaton and Sara Gilbert pull down paychecks, don’t get me wrong, but I wasn’t sure if it was a knee-jerk reaction to another four-camera laugh-track sitcom, or if the humor was genuinely that derivative and shallow. I didn’t hear enough dialogue that wasn’t some form of “the character is socially awkward and/or has eccentric interests” to keep my attention. Maybe that was a unrepresentative or unfair sample, but I wasn’t motivated to linger.
Thank G-d How To Be A Gentleman has been canceled…I swore after seeing 5 minutes of the premiere…I think…that I was going to have to gouge my eyes out…but it’s gone before I had a chance to shop for gougers. Woo!
And I disagree with your dislike of BBT, but to each their own.
I’m of the opinion that Hitler/the Nazis/the Holocaust/the European front of World War II are overexposed subjects in Western media, so I think it’s good that the History Channel is moving away (if only slightly) from those subjects.
Big Bang Theory actually is that lame. It’s reference pool is maybe slightly larger than most mainstream works, but that’s about the only thing noteworthy about it. Plus it’s basically just a soap opera with a laugh track; all the episodes I’ve seen are predominantly concerned with who is or is not sleeping with whom.
If that guy who thought it necessary to correct the reference to “the History Channel” doesn’t actually work for “History Television,” then he is one sad fuck.
I watched BBT up until it moved to Thursday, and it wasn’t bad- pretty conventional and broad but it had its moments.
Of course, the fact that it regularly thrashes Community in the ratings makes me kinda hate it, but that’s petty of me since it’s not really Chuck Lorre’s fault or anything. NBC’s just too stupid to move their show to a better slot, because WHITNEY!

Damn, I’ve seen a couple episodes and thought it was pretty good…

Hey, it’s “Oprah, Uma, Uma, Oprah.”
Because he’s introducing them, you see.
