Fettel is an enormous quitter.
Seriously, dude. At least TRY to brazen it out.
“I’m going to take my ball and go home.”
Interesting. I’m a bit surprised to see Fettel disposed of in such an abrupt manner, but I think I can see it. He doesn’t seem to be a Dalakhra. If he’s the highest ranking Gundring conspirator, then the way is clear for a Gryg/Gundring assault on the undead, but I can’t help but think that it won’t be so easy. We have one issue left, and it will be big, so I think that Big D has something planned in case the Gundring angle fell apart.
Also, I have to give a shoutout to Davinder. Faces are very hard to do, and he made Alric and Wulf look alike without looking identical. That’s hard.
Finally: Karabokuran? Are they (the Karabokuru?) the analogue to the Japanese?
Not necessarily. Dalakhra isn’t Admiral Thrawn. He’s not some infallible mastermind. He didn’t see Alric when the man was literally under his nose. A lot of what’s happening, right now? Improvisation. I mean, hell, murdering the Calif? That was probably spur-of-the-moment, unless you think he was totally predicting that Alric, Rayana, and assorted people would all collide in such a way that he would be called into that specific late-night meeting.
Eventually, even Dalakhra runs out of backup plans and situations he can trick or stunt his way out of.
@Murc Yes and no. I agree with much of what you say. Dalakhra is by no means infallible (and neither was Thrawn; Zahn made a point of saying so). However, if Tanquir’s attack worked, then Gundring would be obliged to answer in a military fashion. Dalakhra has to know how military campaigns can go. He may not have a Plan D or even a Plan C, but he would have a Plan B.
Also, I wouldn’t say he is improvising per se, but he is definitely jumping the gun. The smart move would have been to play Alric and Jandal off of each other, and try to keep tabs on the brewing Gundring/Boka war. He instead let his impatience get the better of him. It is just one mistake, but I think it will prove his undoing.
Wulf’s mustache is 100% done.
